ALPHA RALPHA-S/T, LP, 1977, CANADA
This scintillating and wide ranging spacey Canadian prog unit weave numinous folk prog burners ala Paolo Tofani's Electric Frankenstein into an achey and cosmically plangent sonic fabric thats both very French underground-indebted (think: Pulsar and Carpe Diem) and bucolically beatific ala Bo Hansson, though the dewy and pristinely refined manner of it's deployment here is also very copacetic with their Quebecois contemporaries Yves Laferriere, Maneige and Eclipse. Top shelf goodness from one of the world's most underrated 70's music scenes.

You forgot to mention the participation of Jean Alain Gardet and a cameo appearance by Jean-Jacques Goldman on this very rare album.
ReplyDeleteBoth are ex members of Taï Phong, one of the very few sucessful 70's progressive bands from France. I mean, musically sucessfull (not commercially you'd guess, even if they had a big hit in France in 1975).
Jean-Jacques Goldman went on to become a huge solo act in France (and is still nowadays). All his fans would rush into this early album if you mention him on your comment, and let Google do its job and bring "clients" to your blog ;-)
thanks again for posting another wonderful album.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of EM requests, I was wondering if you could post some early Angel Rada records, esp Concierto Solar Para Bhagavan/Solar concert for Bhagavan. I do have Upadesa, which is quite good...
actually, the participation of Jean-Jacques Goldman is so strong, being probably what makes this record so good that I have credited this record to France, NOT to Canada, in my post from Tuesday, 10 February 2009 :

I just think (as many) that this record should not be credited to canada.
