One of the rarest works in the formidable canon of this post-H.N.A.S. project led by Christoph Heemann and Andrew Chalk, The View, like most everything this now-defunct unit recorded during their lifetime, traffics in a lovely glazed 5:00 A.M. suspended ambience featuring mucho reverbed out bowed metal harmonics and distant field recordings achieving that particularly poised still air that gave their work it's specific spectral quality.

Your blog is definetely a gem!
ReplyDeleteMirror is great, and 'The View' is one of their best.
If ever you have their 'Pedestrian/Nocturne' 7", you would make a really happy man of me by posting it! (And I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one...)
Keep on giving us pleasure.
All the very best
Go over to www.farawaypress.net to get currently in-print works by Andrew. Everything he has done lately has been exquisite.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this. I find the Ora stuff a little too droney and samey even from me, but am looking forward to trying Mirror.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have just uploaded TG - Astoria London, 16May04 over at the SkaFunkRastaPunk forum. (http://skafunkrastapunk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=56840)
Feel free to link to it.
Thanks,

MS/VDo - lemme know if you have the Nocturne 7" and intend to upload/post.
ReplyDeleteI own it, but never thought about posting it (a little outside what I'm concentrating on) - but I can if there is a demand....

as always...superb pick. i have this one and it's a gem! perfect late night/early morning accompaniment.
ReplyDeletei know you get scads of requests, but if you happen to have the "Night Passage" 2cd set by Alan Lamb...
cheers from japan and as always, baffling work!
do you guys sleep?
David--If you'd like to post the Nocturne single, that'd be great. If you'd like to post their "A Pilgrim's Solace" CDR, that'd be (for me at least) even better, as I tried to load that one along with The View yesterday only to find it glitching out during the last few minutes...most annoying...
ReplyDeleteAnonymous from Japan-Alas, I don't have any Alan Lamb material...
Why don't you try paying for your music for a change.
ReplyDeleteYou might find people will start to respect you.
