MUTANT MOVIES

Well ,yestrday i saw another movie that imho deserves to be included in my Mutant movies catalogue.What is Mutant Movies?Well it's a film catalogue that mutantsounds considers as masterpieces that left him astonished from the first time he saw them.So here are some:

and the new one is Pang Bros RECYCLE(****)....Amazing movie....Pang Bros on a bad trip !If you haven't see it yet go to your closest dvd store and get it!

    Ever seen any Tarkovskij movies? Looking at your list, I'd recommend you to try "Stalker" at least. All his films are looong, very slow, and not excactly full of dialogue, but afterwards I find them really rewarding.

    Tarkovskij?Nooo...i used to be a fun when i was young (and stupid?)...but i had enough of this raindrop falling and falling and falling in the Nostalgie movie....Stalker is still in the movies i like....Never heard of Primer....Director?possibly the greek title was different though....

    I'd like to recommend some from directors of movies you have on the list, but that you may have already seen, that I feel are worthy of your time:

    Jodorowsky's Santa Sangre (the director of Holy Mountain and El Topo)

    Greenaway's Pillow Book (director of Belly of the Architect and the Cook, the Thief)

    Also, if you haven't seen Tarantino's other flicks, Kill Bill 1 and 2, and Jackie Brown, they're highly entertaining as well. He's perhaps been relegated to the "too hip" category, but he's still a damn good film maker.

    Oh, also, if you haven't seen "A Scanner Darkly," that is perhaps the other greatest Philip K. Dick book turned into a movie (imho) besides Blade Runner.

    Interesting list. A bit of a Film Noir Super Fan, myself. A few of these you've listed I have to view or re-view. Eraserhead is a film I own, yet haven't viewed, yet. This could very be the push I needed.

    Nice list, but no Kubrick movies? "The Shining", "2001: a Space Odyssey" and "Clockwork Orange" are perennial classics.

    Nice list! I hope to God almighty you meant the original Wicker Man, not the remake w/ Nick Cage! If you like David Lynch wait until you get a glimpse of his newest film Inland Empire. It was amazing! Have you seen The Descent? It's a masterpiece. Also see Frailty, if you haven't already. Some other "weird" winners: The Kingdom (Lars Von Trier), anything by Ken Russell, Altered States, Reflections of Evil or anything by the genius Damon Packard, Men Behind the Sun, Tetsuo the Iron Man, The Loved One, The Telephone Book, Night Watch, Circle of Iron and The New Legend of Shaolin.

    didn't see any Werner Herzog? - too many to recommend...

    Shuji Terayama - for the delightful ass-fisting decadence...

    Chris Marker - "Sans Soleil" especially

    Guy Madden - creature from another time, "Saddest Music in the world" his latest and perhaps most approachable...

    "Afterlife" - Hirokazu Koreeda (nice n' sweet!)

    "The Trial" - Orson Welles

    "Cabinet des Dr Caligari" - Robert Wiene

    "Paris, Texas" - Wim Wenders (just the directors commentary on DVD - film-making masterclass!)

    "Bad Santa" - Terry Zwigoff (rock n' roll!)

    and of course, get over to Ubuweb and down-a-load of those f'ing woeful films there - tutu many to name - Terry Fox one of my faves... I imagine U might like Kurt Kren...

    Wow not only do you have great taste in music but great taste in films also. I'm a fan of most of the films on your list. (Saw 3 is much better than Saw 2 by the way). Here are a few classics I'd recommend:
    FORBIDDEN ZONE (cult weirdness with Herve "Da Plain" Villacheze).

    LONE WOLF and CUB (70's Japan Samurai splatter. 6 films in the series with the 2nd one "Baby Cart at the River Styx" being the best).

    KISS ME DEADLY (Cult film noir)

    SECONDS (Bizarre 60's wierdness from John Frankenheimer who also did MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE with Frank Sinatra)

    ICHI THE KILLER (Takashi Miike's masterpiece) Also see HAPPINESS OF THE HATUKURI'S (sic?) and VISITOR Q (AUDITION is a turd in my opinion).

    UZUMAKI (the VORTEX) really bizarre asian horror.

    Any of JEAN ROLLIN's early films are excellent. SHIVER OF THE VAMPIRES being my personal favorite with an awesome soundtrack by high-school Prog band ACANTHUS (I have the long out of print Lucertola soundtrack collection of Rollin's films is you want me to upload it)

    THE TRIAL (Orson Welles wildest film).

    I STAND ALONE (brutal french shocker from the guy who did the annoying IRREVERSABLE)

    Mikhail Kalatozov's I AM CUBA (the most amazing cinematography I have ever seen!)

    If you like Jodorowsky, you might like the Coffin Joe films (from Brazil)- maybe not as cosmic, but almost as weird.

    Tribulation 99 by Craig Baldwin- Just out on DVD & essential.

    Recent & semi-recent Austrian experimental films by Peter Tscherkassky & Martin Arnold are good eye candy.

    I've seen most of the films on your list, the best ones out of those you picked would be eraserhead, holy mountain, blade runner, naked lunch, and... pulp fiction, perhaps. I see someone already recommended the japanese horror "uzumaki" (vortex), should watch that one if you get the chance. Other movies worth mentioning: battle royale, brother (with kitano), Le Dernier Combat (1st luc besson movie, almost completely silent, post-apocalyptic setting... oh and it has jean reno) or how about "the spook who sat by the door" (excellent blaxploitation about a black man who uses his CIA training to start guerrilla warfare against the american government), scanners (cronenberg), soylent green etc etc...

    Love Jodorowsky, and Stalker is a personal fave as well.
    My 2 cents: Decoder (all star cast w/ GP-O, Christiane F, FM Einheit, WS Burroughs. And the soundtrack is killer. Have the soundtrack on vinyl if anyone would be interested), "Bad Boy Bubby", Harry Smith's "Heaven and Earth Magic",..most anything by Croenenberg (especially "Shivers" and "The Brood"), Dario Argento ("Phenomenon/Creepers" pretty wow-ed me out at the end. And the cats, rats, hotdog vendor scene in "Inferno" isn't too bad either.), Kenneth Anger ('specially "Invocation of My Demon Brother"--Mick Jagger creates perhaps the 1st ever techno track, "Lucifer Rising", and "Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome", Werner Herzog's "Even Dwarves Start Small", and "Freaks"--'We accept you, one of us! Gooble Gobble!'

    Hmm...if you would have said, "Hey, I'm also a movie fan...guess some of the movies I really like," I would have been right on with a whole bunch of these (even the Greenaway!) It seems we have similar taste in movies (but I don't like Shrek or Rosemary's Baby and I think Tron is really dated)...

    I'd like to second the Miike suggestion. I think you'll really really dig his movies. I'd also like to second the recommedation for Werner Herzog who is my favorite director. That guy has never made a movie that wasn't worth watching.

    Tron? Dune? Ha! I'd like to add World's Greatest Sinner, Bedsitting Room, Magic Christian, Sunrise, Third Man, Night Of The Hunter, Brazil, Whistle & I'll Come To You (er, BBC drama actually)... any Yuen Woo Ping from '78-84..

    Can't beat a good film, nice list!

    I don't know, that seems to be the same list that everyone who is weird to be weird watches, it's sort of like wearing a uniform. I wouldn't put that Shrek crap on any list. There are a million short films I've seen over the years that would make up a top 100 list for me, but no feature films with the possible exception of Eraserhead. You got us all this wild music, so let's go for some movies that you gotta dig up the same way you dig up music.

    Head (1968)
    Rock & Rule (1983)
    TerrorVision (1986) - pretty sure MutantSounds posted the soundtrack to this...
    The Black Hole (1979)
    Starcrash (1979)
    The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)
    The Howling (1981)
    Cruising (1980)
    The Garbage Pail Kids Movie (1987)
    Beyond The Valley of the Dolls (1970) - but pretty much anything Herschell Gordon Lewis
