PICKY PICNIC-PICNIC LAND, TAPE, 1982, JAPAN

This is the completely mad 1982 debut cassette from Japan's Picky Picnic, primarily known for their 1985 LP "Ha! Ha! Tarachine" released on Germany's Ata-Tak Records. Led by Kaoru Todoroki, Picky Picnic have often been pegged as being Residents-like, a descriptor which, while superficially somewhat accurate, fails to adequately prepare you for the very particular and virulent strain of grotesqueness on display here. Like being molested by a gang of muppets, to listen to Picky Picnic is to experience that queer sensation that only emerges when the cheerful and twee becomes fouled and perverted (a tactic that was something of a hallmark of the 80's Japanese underground). Alas, there is no individual track indexing. Just side A and side B. Enjoy!

  1. Oh man! Thanks for using mediafire! I can't stand dealing with rapidshare...

  3. The zip is broken. Or I have no idea how to use Mediafire. But my own sense of ego doesn't allow for that possibility. Anyway, right click to save file gave me the above message, while left click the link brought me nothing but the same page in a frustrating loop.

  4. You had me at "like being molested by a gang of muppets"...after a comparison like that, I am going to be disappointed in anything less than the greatest thing I've ever heard!

  5. Thank you for using MediaFire instead of rapidshare. I would so love to download so many albums on this blog, but rapidshare makes that so annoying. And if anyone one should get money for sharing these files it should be you who are taking the time to digitize everything and make commentary, not some company who has come up with a way to scam.

  6. Just a heads up: Mediafire doesn't seem to work on Safari so well. Use Firefox instead.

  7. First of all, thanks for the inspiring blog. I'm glad you've decided to continue it. I look forward to see what you have up your sleeves.

I'm writing to make a request, though I don't know if this is something you guys are into. I'm on the hunt for those "unofficial" Eno recordings, made for his various instillation projects I believe. There are probably between 5 and 10 of them. The (approximative) titles that come to mind are:

    - Kite Stories
    - Compact Forest Proposal
    - I dormienti
    - Lightness
    - White Cube

and there are probably others. Anyway, thanks in advance if you should have any of them to post, and apologies for putting this request here. I was unsure where else to put it.

  8. I noticed the Picky Picnic is a rather large file (almost 100MB) at 320 bit rate. I went ahead and uploaded a mirror @ 192 VBR which is still very high quality, but only about half the size. If you want to share this on the main page, please feel free...

It orders them by sides (i.e. A1, B3, etc.)

Maybe you could reupload it with the files split?
