To Share Or Not To Share?
Till now i was laughing at all these offensive comments ,but i'm really tired of this situation. My purpose creating this blog was not to read offensive comments.Just silly romantic i just wanted to create somekind of community to spread music long forgotten and obscure. But it seems some assholes does not like that.Possibly i'm making their valuable items for sale cheapier, perhaps they didn't ever realise that music is not their property ,perhaps they are just silly jealeous.I don't know... But under these circumstances i started thinking of closing the blog down...this is not something decided...just a thought....i know ,they are possibly happy, possibly their purposes are achieved....but i do not intent to leave this blog take my whole life and make me nervous and upset...i started with good purposes....but ...i don't know...no posts for the next 2 days...i just wanna think and decide....A big thank to all supporters...at least i found some friends here...over the moon, musicgnome, slobodan, matt, john, jeff,to name but a few....sorry if i have forgotten some it's not done by purpose...i'm very upset right now to let myself think clearly...thank you all guys
There's lots of cranks on the internet with lot of time to make trouble. It's best to pay them no heed.
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see things that I used to have like "Action + Japanese Demonstration" and Lou Champagne, and even better to listen to lost classics like all that stuff on the m-squared label.
You are doing great work making these records/tapes available to people who could never hear them otherwise. Keep up the great work.
Hi!
ReplyDeleteSad news, I sure hope you don't give in to schmucks who're opposing you're blog. I've only just found it and it sure is an extensive and invaluable glimpse into now more or less lost and forgotten obscure music of the past. Keep going!
Hails from Sweden!
What you are doing is fantastic! Don't give up!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy the blog, for what it's worth. I've downloaded nothing from here, only broadened my horizons a bit and discovered some gems that I will keep my eye out for in the shops. I hope other people's greed and ignorance doesn't coerce you into discontinuing the blog, though I understand the pressure that dealing with these sort of people can bring. Best of luck to you with or without mutant sounds.

Hi Mutant,
ReplyDeleteI would be very upset if you stop the blog. I have very little money to spend on music, and your blog enables me to hear things that I would otherwise miss out on. I understand that you get upset by the idiots posting ridiculous and insulting comments, but if they make you stop then they have 'won'. Keep posting and they will eventually disappear back up their own arseholes, leaving the rest of us to enjoy the music.
Thanks.
please dont feel upset and nervous(although i know i would be the same)because of some idiots who dont agree with what you are doing.think about the pleasure you have given so many people(and the fun you must have had doing it).
ReplyDeleteive recently ben going through a rough time in my life, and visiting your blog and losing myself in the music you share has been very helpful to me. if you do decide to stop, then please accept my thanks now.
life is full of people who disagree with you or hate you simply because you are different to them.its really not worth expending energy caring what they think.
do YOU like your blog? thats all that matters, not what someone else thinks. are the rips acceptable to YOU? then fuck anyone else.would they visit your house and complain about the curtains or furniture? if tyhey did, they would be ill mannered swine and you would kick them out
do the same here. just ignore them.they will soon lose interest and go somewhere else, and leave us to enjoy your hospitality.
i visit alot of blogs, and your is easily the best music blog ive encountered. i listen to alot of music, and have been obsessed with it for nearly three decades, and yet you still find things ive never heard of. amazing.
im quite sure im not the only one who feels like this.
we romantics have to stick together!!!
you have my love, support and thanks

Honestly, I'm kinda shocked by the quality and quantity of great music on this blog. I've always considered myself to be a pretty hep daddio, but your blog has expanded my ears and my brain further than I wouldhave thought possible. As far as I'm concerned, this is the most adventurous and interesting blog I've come across, period. Thanks and don't let the bastards get you down.
ReplyDeleteDon't you dare quit. If they don't like it, they don't have to look or snatch. They choose to come here. That's their problem.
ReplyDeleteI only wish you gave a little more of a review for some of these.
Keep up the great work.
Never dumb the content down, Mutant Friend, and never give in to the demands of pathetic, anonymous (!) trolls. Don't let their poison eat away at your resolve... WE SUPPORT YOU. Yours is a genuinely brilliant effort, and we wish you nothing but the best.
ReplyDeleteTS
Are you even sure that there is more than one idiot posting from multiple accounts?
ReplyDeleteM.S., please keep up the good fight. You bring information and history to a wide community. I found your blog almost four weeks ago and I've been astonished at the sheer breadth of sounds and have smiled at finding music I'd read of but given up hope of ever hearing.
ReplyDeleteRegards,
Saverino
Hi Mr. Mutant,
ReplyDeleteEric Lumbleau from Vas Deferens Organization and Sound here. First off, let me say that I am dumbstruck with awe and gratitude for what you've been doing with your blog. You're sensibility could not possibly be more aligned with VDO's and it's a sensibility I've long gone out of my way to promote as well (and...BTW...thanks for using my old AP review for your Archaia posting...).
I'm dearly hoping that your distress over the comments of a few ungrateful turds doesn't dissuade you from keeping up your work here.
I had intended to contact you shortly outside the context of a comment post so as to proffer my services in providing some insane rarities for posting here, but having just seen your alarming
new post, I felt the need to toss my two cents in immediately and say...er....PLEASE don't quit! We love you! And we want to help. Please contact me at vdoandsound@yahoo.com if you want to take me up on this...
In the meantime, keep your spirits up. for every nutjob out there with nothing better to do than piss on the good deeds of others, there are a thousand more of us that just about want to build you a shrine :-)
Take care and keep the faith,
Eric
I have to agree with others here...I am a music officiando and I am shocked at how little I really did know before coming here... the NWW list material alone has been great - and everything else has been icing on the cake.
ReplyDeletePlease, please do not let the postings of a few internet-idiots stop you from continuing this great blog!
I can only echo all of these excellent comments above. I have found many wonderful and surprising things here and I'm terribly glad I was directed to it from an acquaintance elsewhere. By all means, find your best balance that'll keep you happy between sharing music here and your personal commitments elsewhere (always the most important thing!) -- but don't give up! You've done wonders and I thank you very much for it.
ReplyDeleteForgive me for thanking you with a quote from a previous comment, but it's very much eloquent for what I feel :
ReplyDeletewe romantics have to stick together!!!

Your blog is a wonder, please keep it open.
your blog is wonderfully absorbing unlike so much on the web. i was burning a veggie burger a few minutes ago because i was so absorbed. you're a rarity mutant, stay alive.
ReplyDeleteYour site is just fantastic, legendary. Please do not give up because of some idiots - the world is full of them anyway. Closing is the same as surrender!
ReplyDeleteBest regards,
Johan
Dear Mr Mutant, like the rest of the people commenting I have found your blog nothing but educational and inspirational. With the exception of the 'big' names (TG, NWW, P-TV) most of the bands and records on here I've never heard of and most likely never would have, let alone actually getting to listen to these records. I haven't been here since day one, but not far off, your blog has grown in popularity and inevitably more people have arrived (some with seriously petit issues but most shocked at the consistancy of far reaching posts). The end of Mutant Sounds would be a blow to the blog sphere, 'don't let the bastards grind you down' my friend, you are doing an unparalleled service for everyone that visits.
ReplyDeleteThe anonymous trolls are enemys to us all, they probably are spiteful pricks with massive record collections that they never listen to or have any intention of letting other people hear, they are just pissed because you are 'sharing' all this obscure music that they stabbed people for back in the day.
Please, please, please Mutant Sounds don't quit on us. I'm sure most of the artists you post would be ecstatic that they're music is not only still in circulation but ACTUALLY BEING HEARD AND ENJOYED.
Mutant Sounds you are a self-less hero of the people.
All my love. x
P.s. again "don't let the bastards grind you down".
Thanks.

ReplyDeleteup.Your blog is very interesting
and you too.So I hope you will
go on.Cheers.
I was already at peace with the thought that there was a lot of (in my opinion) beautiful music out there that I would never hear, despite visiting several excellent recordstores over many years. Mutant Sounds gave me the opportunity to discover a lot of this otherwise undiscovered music. I cannot thank you enough. Wether you stop or continue this blog is totally up to you, but don't feel bad because of some stupid comments. It's not worth it.
ReplyDeleteWith big respect for your blog.
Johan NL
Captian Mutant! I understand your frustrations. I've felt many of your same feelings with my on and off blog Curved-Air.com. A handful of people appreciate it, many lurk, and others try to kill links, send hate mail, and just sh$t on the positive share vibe.
ReplyDeleteI think you have to have pretty thick skin to do a record sharity blog. Especially one that garners rarities, out of prints, and just quality sh$t. The negative comments are trying but whatever, there's always haters and folks that are jealous. fck them!
I've seen many great blogs start strong like yours and then come to a stand still or go from one extreme to another (kinda like mine). I can only suggest from experience to not burn yourself out. I love that you're bringing so many great shares so often but you're bound to burn out. I mean its really time consuming uploading, posting info, uploading pics, etc.
I suggest you step back and take a deep breath. You may consider pacing yourself a bit more. If you're wanting positive validation from the community you're gonna get and already have but many people aren't gonna share the same positive enthusiasm. For all the 100's of people who are absolutely in love with this blog you can't let yourself focus on 10 people who are absolute wormy a$$holes.
Regardless of what you decide your blog is phenomenal and has introduced and filled in large portions of my personal collection. I am extremely grateful to the time and energy you've put forth so far. Much thx big Jim.
peace

The people that appreciates what you do outnumbers by a long shot the people who is pissed off.
ReplyDeletePlease, keep on doing this wonderful job.
The people that appreciates what you do outnumbers by a long shot the people who is pissed off.
ReplyDeletePlease, keep on doing this wonderful job.
Please don't shut down the blog. There are some odd errors in the rips every once in a while, but you can't fix those and I (and everyone else) would rather have the music in some form than not at all. There's so much here that I would have never found without this blog.
ReplyDeleteJim—
ReplyDeleteYou have to understand that not only are those who have negative criticisms to deliver more likely to make a comment than those who have something good to say, they often have little idea about how their words will be received. This is all the more true in the impersonal world of blogs, chat rooms, and emails where comments that in person would be softened by a gesture, or by continued communication, end up sounding too harsh.
So, some thoughts: 1) there are thousands more people out there appreciating the great work you've been doing than there are those ready to attack you; 2) people who were more gentle with criticisms might be able to suggest that if it were possible to do the files at a higher bit rate and to set them up so that one didn't have to re-enter a lot of the information after copying them into iTunes, that would be great and much appreciated by us, your grateful fans. But those are minor details when weighed against the vast wealth you've been sharing with us daily.
Keep up the great work—it's become a fixture of my day.

ReplyDeleteI say at the first sign of a negative comment stop reading! Never give the person your time, and never, never respond! That's the only way they will go away, is if they are ignored.
ReplyDeleteDon't disappear. I have lots of obscure things I want to share with you and your fans but don't have the time to make the digital transfers just yet. Keep the faith!
John
I know its hard to deal with the jerks but don't let it get you down.
ReplyDeletePlease continue your great blog. I just found your blog and all the effort you have put forth is wonderful.
I know you have opened my eyes and ears.
I would really really be sad to see this blog die! Like I've said before, finding this has been the best thing that has happened to me in 2007! I know it must suck to hear people's complaints... but really, if they don't like your blog, then why don't they make a better blog on their own? Otherwise they should just shut up!
ReplyDeleteAs for if music should be shared or not, personally I'm one of those idealists who thinks that art belongs to everybody. Even if my view is off base, I don't see how your blog counts as ripping off the musicians, considering that most of the stuff you're putting up is all out of print and hasn't been legitimately reissued. So it seems artists would be happy to finally be getting some recognition. Maybe you blog is upsetting collectors who hope to sell thier collection, but again, I don't see why. I'd imagine that some people, after hearing something you've posted, would want to track down a real copy to own. So I don't really see any legitimate complaints people can be making about your blog, most likely they are just jealous! Anyway, I certainly hope that after your two days of rest, you come back even stronger than before! It would be a sad world without MutantSounds!
A blogger at WFMU - a BIG presence in the blogosphere of interesting and experimental musics - had this to say:
ReplyDeleteMutant Sounds has me absolutely stunned, it is without doubt the best sharity site for obscure and out-of-print avant-garde, psych, krautrock, and minimal synth albums I have ever seen...
Coming from someone at WFMU, that's really saying something!
dont give up think this is a great blog never heard of some the bands been great to listern to them thanks alot for that
ReplyDeleteThis blog is a treasure. Don't give it up. You're doing a terrific job.
ReplyDeletethis is THE best music blog I've ever seen, period. please please please don't quit!
ReplyDeletehello...i had never been in blog world till i came to you, and I now have an enormous amount of music i didnt have before! (not to mention info...) Surely you know any open forum exposure makes you game for sniping...their approval cant be your motive. Your generosity and hard work neednt live up to the measure of someone you dont know and wouldnt like! besides if you shut down I'll kill myself and I'M NOT GOING ALONE!!!!
ReplyDeletekevin
You have made me (and I know others) very happy! Just know that. I really look forward to visiting this site daily to open my eyes to music I have not heard before. I can undersand you being down from this type of thing, but you are the shit and they suck period
ReplyDeleteMatt Castille
"Possibly I'm making their valuable items for sale cheapier"
ReplyDeleteNO, what they have of value is I'm guessing *original copies* of what you're posting. That's the value. I can get mp3s of wax cylinder recordings from Thomas Edison's personal collection from WFMU. That doesn't decrease the value of owning *the original fucking wax cylinder*
Don't stop!
I am very grateful for this blog...there are always people who like to wind other people up and usually they know which buttons to push...but it happens everywhere and especially on the internet(maybe because of the anonymity it affords)...if ever i look at the comments on a youtube video there's always at least one user who says "[fill in blank] are such {fill in blank} and all you people are such {fill in blank]"...usually they are either unhappy and angry people, very young and immature, not very young but still very immature.
ReplyDeleteThanks for a wonderful blog.
john anderson
Don't give up.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for all the great music.

33 comments by now... well.
ReplyDeleteDear Mr. Mutant, from time to time I do pay attention to the last line of your posts: any upload - 0 comments; but as soon as someone is reported to post you a blaming comment and consequently you are "forced" to think on the blog's existence reasons - you get an amount of comments... tons of supporting words, freindly ears but still only unstopable "downloaders"... does anybody read the reviews? post a comment ever after pulling you ear-plugs out?.. I've got sort of different suggestion to Mutant – slowdown, man... you get this people to hury up, push the links, download, clear coockies or pay for rapid sevice, get their gems copied to their ipods, nervously navigate through the longest list of unknown names, listen to the music in 10 seconds preview mode... what the fuck are you doing?...
I do really love your blog, i really do... but every fucking evening i've got to download 6-7 LPs in attempt not to miss a thing... moreover, does anybody have time enough to listen carefuly as these LPs deserves, for sure? Or am i the only one to tell you that?
"Educational purposes"? You hardly give any time to perceive, conceive, and assimilate the material... I go to the vintage LP seller every Sunday and lately my quests are formed by your recomendations... but i cannot spend this amount of cash weekly (6*7=42 LPs)...
"Slow down", man... just a bit... have a rest for couple of days... then start posting - 2-3 items per day... you will see people start talking... "in our days, there are many more writing about music than talking"- Jarvis Cocker or.. someone else=)
Love you.
PLEASE dont shut this blog down!
ReplyDeleteFuck those naysayers! Mutant Sounds has quickly become one of my favorite things on the web, which I have been religiously checking often multiple times a day. I would be horribly devestated to see this blog closed down. Just ignore all the jerks who can't allow something great to exist without being assholes.
Hope you keep up the amazing work youve been doing here.
I think the only thing you can do is ignore comments from the outer fringes of reason. There's a lot of neuroses out there that comes out in stange ways that should not be taken seriously. I was a little surprised to see wfmu (albeit deservedly) mention you since I feel like attention to blogs brings this element - don't they know that?
ReplyDeleteBitrates - why complain? Is it so hard to accept what you are given?
Well, thanks for all the sound - almost all of it impossible to find in any circumstance.
Hold on, man! Many people are expecting your shares. Cheer up
ReplyDeleteDon't give up. Is a great resource for those who are looking something different.
ReplyDeleteRegards,

Dear M/S,
ReplyDeleteOf course we all sympathise, and it's hard not to take it to heart, even if you know that they're just fools crying out for a little attention. I used to run a chat-site for a living. Many of its clients were vulnerable people, but we used occasioanlly to get idiots come on who used to get a kick out of coming on to scare or insult them. These people seem to thrive on the oxygen of attention, and only by ignoring their maicious chatter do you dissuade them. Not coincidentally they seem more numerous in school holidays!
As ever, with the greatest respect for what you're doing.
Just a quick word...this music blog is by far one of the best I have come across, and I have discovered a lot of awesome bands this way. Also, with many other great music blogs going down on a depressingly regular basis, I truly would be a shame if this one were to close up shop as well (although, obviously, the final decision is yours).
ReplyDeleteThere is NO other blog out there that even comes close to this one in terms of scope, obscurity, and sheer quantity of posts. Since discovering your blog I've been completely hooked, checking daily (sometimes more) to see what gems you've shared. If you were to shut this down, it would an immense blow not only to obscuro-philes, but also to the blogging community at large. Thank you.
ReplyDeletei just wanted to create somekind of community to spread music long forgotten and obscure
ReplyDeleteAnd you have, man. I'm sure everyone, even the artists themselves, appreciate all your hard work.
I own some of these records, or have spent 20+ years looking everywhere for them....
Anyway, thanks!
Mutant,
ReplyDeleteUp to this point there have been 48 comments. I read them all and EVERY SINGLE ONE is laudatory. So I suggest you just keep doin' what you're doin' and I'll do my part in the internet economy and go out and buy a bigger hard drive!
WE WANT MORE !!!!
ReplyDeleteJust want to echo the sentiments by previous commenters. Your blog is amazing, and it would be a horrible shame if a couple of assholes with too much time on their hands ruined it.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you decide to do, though, thank you VERY MUCH for what you have already given.
The Mutant Sounds Blog has given endless delights over the last two months. I look forward to exploring each and every work of art you've come to share wit all of us, each day I come for a visit. The thought of you packing it in brings much sadness.
ReplyDeleteHaving said all of that, let me say, if you aren't enjoying what you are doing...then, don't feel you must continue despite the huge variance between supporters and detractors.
As this is, most assuredly, a hobby for you. And, it is giving you displeasure, then I'd be remise to suggest that you should continue.
I, for one, will be extremely sad to see you end what has been one of the very best publications I have ever come upon. I will, admittedly, be devestated for not be introduced to the potential new music to follow. But, I am not going to suggest what should and shouldn't bother you, I am not going to tell you to dismiss or endure another unkind word. Because, if I do, I might be doing so for selfish means.
If it ain't fun, then find something else that brings you joy.
Regardless, my hope is you find joy in whatever path you choose to travel.
All the best,
Gnome
Whatever your will, but all gratitude to you.
ReplyDeleteCertain musical voids are getting filled and pieces I haven't heard in many years are rediscovered.
Thank you.
Ever since I have found this blog a couple of weeks ago, I have been so excited to re-discover old favorites from the past, as well as discover music I missed way back when! I really hope you do not stop sharing. The quality of your uploads are excellent if you ask me. I am always reading over your wants list to see if I have anything I can share with you. Hopefully I can sometime. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteDear Mutant Sounds,
ReplyDeleteI was playing a show the other night and talking to someone I know at the bar. I commented that I'd found this wonderful music blog full of amazing treasures, and he got this gleam in his eye and said 'is it mutant sounds?' everyone I've shown your blog to or talked to about it is absolutely awestruck!
It really would be a tragedy if you shut this down. The sad fact is that there's a lot of people on the internet with nothing better to do than attack someone who is actually doing something worthwhile. lets see them do better. your blog is the best I have ever encountered so please pay them no heed. Focus on the glowing praise I keep seeing posted here day after day instead.
Thanks for all you're doing!!
best wishes, Dan
the only possible, singlular drawback to this amazing blog is that it actually got me to stop listening to WFMU coz i no longer have time. i mean i was seriously addicted to that station, morning noon and night i listened without fail... now my days are full of CHAMPIGNON, WILBURN BURCHETTE, bands or albums with the word LUCIFER in it and tons of "early no-wave/minimal synth" "gems". perhaps moderation is the key, or maybe ending the blog... would be sad to see you go, the few times i have been back to FMU i have heard something from here ("that was lester bangs with the delinquents singing legless bird...") so you should realize you are influencing the good guys too...
ReplyDeletethanks again for the tunes,
well, Leventis!
ReplyDeleteclearly, some people have yet to learn that Music is universal and was always meant to be a shared experience. However, if people can upset you, remember that you allow them too.
whatever your decision might be, thanks ...and know that you got through to many more people who appreciated your work.
I really hope you stay. I've only just discovered you, and you have such brilliant music to share. Fuck those nerds; they are not important. Music is.
ReplyDeleteDude, this blog is great! You post all sorts of music that I never would have heard otherwise. If people are giving you a bad time, they're just dopes.
ReplyDeleteYou are really doing an awesome job here. I wanted to thank you. And this comes from a true obsessive music fan. Please don't give up. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that the negative comments are discouraging you but I must say there will always be assholes trying to complicate matters in everything you do and no matter what they say you just have to keep on doing it and ignore them. What do they matter anyway?
I'd just like to be counted alongside all the others expressing support for the blog - its great. ive never commented before but i've gotten loads of excellent music here and I hope you decide to keep it up but if not then thanks and best of luck! shane.
ReplyDeleteMutant One:
ReplyDeleteYou've set new standards in the blogosphere!
It may not always be reflected in the comments on your blog, but music lovers I'm in touch with all over the world refer to your blog.
You've expanded my musical tastes ... and helped tremendously to reduce the music I need from the NWW list! I've discovered some tremendous music through Mutuant Sounds.
Thanks so much for your generosity. I certainly wouldn't blame you for stopping your blog ... but hope you don't.
Dave
Hey Mutant - love the blog, but can't keep up!! 450 lps takes me about 5 years to listen to!! Why not post one a day? less hassle & more time for yourself and your friends and family, more time for your 'audience' to absorb it all. Ignore the cranks. As for bitrate? bitrate shcmitrate - some of this stuff is from 30 year old cassettes for chrissakes!! d'ya think they worried about bitrates then??!! 192 is good enough for YOU! Good quality music will stand up in any format.
ReplyDeleteLove and peace xxxx
Oh Mutant. Ignore the negative dicks. These fools post comments that they would never say to your face. You should be proud of this great little corner of the internet. Don't give up, Man. This is some seriously interesting stuff!
ReplyDeleteKeep on mutatin'
Cosmos.
I guess do what you think will make you happy. If this blog is causing you too much bother it would probably be in your best interest to shut it down. I and many other people would miss it but do what's best for you. Thanks a ton for all the wonderful hard-to-find music you have already given us.
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteNothing much to add, except a big thumbs up.
You've already entered blog history with this amazing, daily updated fringe music heaven, filling the gaps in my NWW-wantlist and far beyond.
You're on top of the list for lots of music lovers everywhere.
This is clearly a labour of love and you can one can only be very grateful for your work.
Whatever your decision is: Kudos & Respect!
Sincerely
Tom, Belgium
I have to say that I was absolutely stunned when I read your last post. Please continue running this blog. It is one of my favorite musical discoveries of 2007. The breadth of your posts and the obscure psych, kraut, minimal synth, NWW-list music you have posted on here is one of the most comprehensive I have ever seen posted on a blog. Like the others have said, please desregard the few negative comments you receive and focus on the positive responses. I really appreciate what you are doing on Mutant Sounds and it would be a great loss to the blogging community if you decided to pack it in. Highlights for me are:
ReplyDeleteHampton Grease Band- Music to Eat
Nihilist Spasm Band- No Record
Red Noise- Sarcelles-locheres
Nu Creative Methods- Nu Jungle Dances
Heratius- S/T
Han Bennink- Solo
You have opened my eyes and ears to a whole new world of experimental music that I would never have found otherwise. There is always the debate about whether sharing full albums is right or wrong. Most, if not all of the items that you have shared on here are extremely rare, limited edition or out-of print. Therefore, you are doing nothing wrong here. Even if you were offering things that were in print, so what. Hopefully you decide to continue posting on your blog despite the naysayers. Thank you for everything that you have shared on here.
Kevin
http://eclectic-grooves.blogspot.com
Just another admirer who has been awestruck by the choice items you've shared with us that otherwise I'd never have heard. Keep the faith!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is amazing. I'm sure that the people (myself included) who are benefiting and enjoying it far outweigh those who are sending you nasty comments. Keep it up!!
ReplyDeleteThis is one kick ass blog, very gratefull for it. Some really hard to find stuff you got. Super! don't stop.
ReplyDeletePlease don't give it up, your blog is blowing my mind at the moment. It's great to get to hear this music without having to dish out big bucks to second-hand-dealing assholes who just want to profit from music lovers like us - people who charge high prices just because they can. Blogs like this are the antidote to that - we need you!
ReplyDeleteThe only advice I'd give is to maybe slow down your posts so we can keep up :-)
Thanks for all your work! It was and is a killer resource for people to learn about and here some rare goods.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic blog. Truly excellent work. Pay no attention to the idiots who don't appreciate what you're doing. :)
ReplyDeleteThere are certainly a lot of assholes in the world and, unfortunately, many of them have internet connections. I hope you won't let them get to you. You have a great blog & I appreciate your fantastic posts.
ReplyDeleteMax
Although I've only downloaded one thing from yr site you've got my support and I come here every day because you never know what you'll find, and I found a single I've been after for 26 years!! Judging by these comments you're pretty popular so keep it going. All the best mate.
ReplyDeleteHey.
ReplyDeleteThis is hands down the best music blog I have ever seen.
Please keep it up.
however you decide, thank you for your efforts! your blog rocks big time....
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone else.
ReplyDeleteAmazing blog, keep it up, ignore the haters.
Your blog has showered my nights with fantastic tremors. Don't quit! This music is impossible to hear without you!
ReplyDeleteFrankly speaking, your Brog is the highest in current music Brog. It is not another. Please continue in despair. It assists in you all over the world. Let's do peacefully more slowly.

I love your blog! There's no way that most of this music can be found in digital format, and unlike other blogs who upload readily-available content (like Curved-Air, what with the "donate" links and all, ya primadonna!), it's a crime NOT to be able to hear stuff like Storung or Xex or Rescue 1! Thank you so much for bringing this music to the people! Please stay with it, this is my favorite of all the blogs I've visited. :)
ReplyDeleteNo, please don't give up and don't get discouraged! Like so many people out there, I love your blog and I visit it often. Some of the music here is really not my cup of tea (I mostly listed to free jazz and 70s prog) but it was a revelation just to find out that so many obscure albums existed...I am not sure why your blog makes so many people angry - people already mentioned some potential reasons. My guess is that the music you post is so different from any other blog and some people do not understand it and want to put the music and you down. Please ignore them - as you can see, for every nay-sayer there are 100 people that love your work! And the music is too important to give up...or we may one day end up with only blogs posting classic rock albums over and over. The world needs variety and your blog really is unique. And to people that complain about scratchy records - if you don't like it, go and buy the CD! Ohh, there is no CD (and probably never will be)...,most of these albums will never be re-issued...then shut up and be happy that you had a chance to hear it. BTW, there is software available that will get rid of album clicks and noise - do your homework and search the Internet, Mr Murant Sounds should not have to do everything for you...And finally, thank you, thank you, thank you MS for all the great and unusual music!

One more comment - somebody suggested that you should slow down and publish 2-3 albums per day. This must be a typo - I beieve 2-3 albums per week would be more than enough. As for the album info - you provide as much info as possible, I know. People should not complain - we can easily find the info on the Internet. And if the Internet does not give you anything, then MS cannot do it either - so don't complain! Long live music!
ReplyDeleteThis is a fantastic service that you're providing. I support your efforts to bring out-of-print recordings into availability. As for posting in-print things, I suggest leaving that alone. Why bother when you've got access to so much cool, out-of-print stuff? Either way, I appreciate what you're doing and am not hatin'.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is awesome. Please do not stop. Just adding to the chorus. Fuck the naysayers.
ReplyDeletedont leave silly people destroy your wonderful blog! Just ignore them!
ReplyDeleteThink about the people who are
supporting you (all of us) and
dont give up!
Thanks a lot for everything and
keep going on spreading good music
around!!
Just one thing...
ReplyDeletemy favourites folder is organised with 3 sub-folders:
"blogs"
"great blogs"
"top blogs"
..at the moment mutant-sound is all alone in the "top blogs" folder.
Thanx a lot
OrganicChemistry
Like all these other folks, I just wanted to say thanks.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the time spent in front of your computer screen that you put in while uploading.
Thanks for the effort put in in repairing and mainstaining links.
Thanks for the sheer enthusiasm which has made available an incredible volume of records that are (mostly?)unavailable otherwise.
Just, thanks, basically, for blowing minds. My faves have been AMM/MEV, Takehisa Kosugi and H.N.A.S.
Take it easy.
Please don't stop! But if you do... well, it's been beautiful. Favorites so far: Beyond, Decayes, Fred Lane, Jean Cohen-Solal, Christian Yoga Church, MEV... nearly everything has been great! - Even the Soft Drinks tracks on The Thing from the Crypt! ;)
ReplyDeleteDon't let the cyber-bullies get to you - you've been doing great work in getting these obscure gems heard by a wider audience. If a few loners don't like the fact that their treasured obscurities are finding a wider audience, who cares? I'm sure some of the more obscure artists are probably glad that their work is actually being heard a few more people again.
I certainly don't think that a few blog posts is going to effect the value of any original lps - you're doing a public service in letting us know which ones are worth the money and which ones are stinkers! If an album is good then surely the price of the original would increase if it gained any type of 'cult' following?! (I'm sure, for example, that the Vashti Bunyan lp is worth more now than a few years ago...)
well, if somebody is losing time boring you with "you suck" comments, they surely do care enough to see you are doing something they think must be stopped. so it's a kind of feedback (negative, but...).so you're doing something important, even for them. if you stop, even them will lose fun. dont let some anal retentive fucks stop what is a fine and well done work. use moderation, and simply ignore this cunts.
ReplyDeletehope ya the best,
julio.
You should close the blog!!! you got not right what so ever to give these albums for free!!!
ReplyDeleteVery sad to hear this!
ReplyDeletePerhaps you could shut down the comment section? No positive comments but at least, as it seems to matter a lot to you (understandably), no negative comments either? Sounds like a bunch of jerks.
Thanks for everything up until now, it's been wonderful!
- All the best!
thanx mutant sounds for all you've offered up here... without a doubt one of the greatest treasures I've ever unearthed on the net...
ReplyDeleteif you should choose to call it a day - know that your sainthood is assured!
however... i really hope U don't...
thanx.
for making life that little bit more special...
Keep it up yo, this music deserves to be heard.
ReplyDeleteHello - if you do decide not to continue the blog then that's entirely your decision, but I'd just like to repeat what many have said already, i.e. it's a fucking great blog. I've learned a lot from it: my musical tastes are fairly narrow so I haven't been able to appreciate everything you've posted, but that's my loss.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who runs a music blog is a magnanimous soul in my book. It's not as if you're coining it in or anything! Anyone with nothing betetr to do than slag off others' efforts is beyond sad. I hope that even if you do decide not to go on with it that current postings are up long enough for me to get a few of them at least! Mant thanks and all the very best to you & yours from an old hippy named Richard.
Hey people : negative comments ? Where are they, I see very few on these posts ... two or three ...is that a reason to leave ? Sincerely, I don't understand ... with so few negative comments ...Keep on : I count on you to have all the artists of the NWW list in my CR-R record collection. Thank you very much ... don't give up ...

Sorry mate ...welcome to a bloggers lot
ReplyDeletePerhaps now you realise why bloggers come and go so quick ... change their name ,URL, upload host
You cant win , either become totally thick skinned (which if that is not your nature is ultimately no good)or restrict the blog to members only that you choose
Look at the last comment slagging off curved air blog which has been a superb blog ...ungrate (and anonymous as usual)
I wish you well and thank you for posting such inspirational music
Hail Mutant Sounds...
ReplyDeleteRather than shutting down you should be getting funding! As I've posted before (and have been far from alone) this blog has totally and fundamentally opened my ears up to new sounds and reignited the excitemetn I first got when I bought my first records way back when.
This comment board aloneis enough to show you how many friends, nay students, you've picked up along your fast journey to the top of the blogs.
The has beens that have knocked you are not the kind of people I'd want hanging around near me or my collection anyday.
Please take strength from these messages and not the ones knocking you. And if you ever find yourself stuck in East London you've certainly got somewhere to crash at my digs.

Yet another plea to keep up the outstanding work. Of course, higher bit rates are always desirable. But just being able to hear this music, which would otherwise be impossible in many cases, is a gift. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYour blog is a a great blog ! if you stop it, i will spend more time on my own work, but i'll miss great music. One of the best music blogs on my taste.
ReplyDeleteWhatever you decide to do, be proud of yourself. This is the best blog on the whole www. My prayers (and i don`t belive in god) is that Mutant Sounds lives forever. The World needs this blog.
ReplyDeleteas everyone else has said before, your blog is amazing. please do not stop. whatever idiots are complaining, disregard them, their complaints are always stupid and pointless. but, if you do decide to stop posting, let me say thanks for all the great obscure stuff you have put up here. there are a bunch of things i have wanted to hear for a long time but have never been able to find. so thanks very much.
ReplyDeleteyr blog is the best thing on the internet, pl. dont stop
ReplyDeleteWhat can I add to those 83 previous comments? Not a lot except to agree wholeheartedly. Y're doing awesome work here and I can't express how sorry I (and an awful lot of other people) would be if you shut down. I've found things on here I've been searching for for a fucking age and had given up ever hearing.
ReplyDeleteIgnore the wankers, the interweb would be a much poorer place without you.
Hi, Just discovered your blog a couple of weeks ago and I'm so excited, so many posts fullfilling a wish list of recordings I tought I never get the chance listening. Plus all those I never knew existed. Like I said, so exciting. And I don't even own a computer... I'm squatting one at my parents' house at the moment. Need to find a way to keep up in the future. Hope to find you when I do so. Thanks
ReplyDeleteCheers, Since Mr Mutant is burned out on the "turd Factor" and not posting today I thought I would share something cool. The Band is MODULO 1000 "Nad Fale Com Paredes" (Early 70's Brazil Psych "Monster"). This is the "Old" cd version and it has since been re-issued with remastered sound and extra tracks. A completely amazing band (and very strange) in my opinion. I hope everyone enjoys it! Since I am responsible for this link please email me direct with your stupid comments (rswaller3@aol.com). I will be glad to delete them like I delete all my worthless junk mail.

I have no clue about bitrates and all that geek shit and I don't care if it is not up to someones standard. This is for all the great people out there who actually dig hearing cool music.
By the way MUTANT SOUNDS is quite possibly the most amazing blog I have ever seen! I have enjoyed everything I've listened to so far (although i find it impossible to keep up with all the posts). I will be eternally grateful for the hundreds of amazing bands I have discovered here.
I hope you keep the blog up. Regardless of your decision to do so or not, I would like you to know that your efforts are really appreciated. I've found some amazingly great music here... and had my mind blown several times. Many thanks!
ReplyDeletePlease keep it up.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes from Croatia!!!!!!!!!!
Please keep it up.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes from Croatia!!!!!!!!!
The true value of this blog cannot really be estimated. A big "thank you" would be the least I could say. Please do not give up.

I think that it is unfortunate that you choose to not publish some comments that come from "anonymous" sources, whether they be in favor of you or not, as long as they offer some insight. At least I tried...
ReplyDeleteI know that's an old one, but I had to comment on it. You're doing an extraordinary work in perserving these mostly out-of-print items on the one hand. On the other, at least for me your blog has some kind of "educational" value. I was unaware of most of the music you present here. Records you present here are really jewels. So once again thank you and keep on the excellent work.
ReplyDeleteSome people just can't appreciate the genius of mutantsounds...it really doesn't matter why.
ReplyDeleteThis blog is one of the best blogs for rare and forgotten music.
What this blogs does is make them appear and be visible better late than never.
Just wanted to add my little contribution. Mutant Sounds is a blog that I return to time and time again. I've been reminded of long since forgotten classics and been introduced to some remarkably brilliant music too since I stumbled across this site 18 months or so ago. I'd be very sad to see it go and it's important that the contributors realise how much they are apppreciated. x
ReplyDeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteI'm using this thread to express my delight, surprise and great joy at the discovery of your blog. As many have said, it is just plain amazing.
Thank you so much for all these sounds and these people you introduce here to the larger world.
I feel like I found a treasure island, with an actual treasure in it...
Thank you again !
just thanks and thanks!
