SHINRO OHTAKE & YAMANTAKA EYE-PIPELINE-24 SMASH HITS BY 24 PUZZLE PUNK BANDS, CD & BOOK, 1996, JAPAN
Following up on yesterdays posting of the Juke/19 boxset, here's the passingly cited collaboration between Juke/19 mainman Shinro Ohtake (now much more known in the Japanese visual arts world, his delightfully messy childhood-gone-wrong visual sensibility displayed in the enclosed book) and Eye from The Boredoms. Anyone that cocked an ear to the Juke/19 will understand well that Eye's inspired infantilism schtick is as indebted to Juke/19's sound as his neon junkstore visual sense is indebted to Ohtake's fine arts output. One suspects that their coming together here is something of a pilgrimage to Mecca of sorts for Eye. As for what it sounds like...well...let's see. The year is 1996, there's a room full of childrens instruments on hand, a cockamamie thematic conceit is in place (in this instance, that the album is by a collection of "24 puzzle punk bands") and Eye is a featured performer. 3 guesses.
Note: this lengthy CD has been divided into two parts.

Sorry, not a comment for this latest post, but a question about an old one, namely, the 'Boxed Brownies' compilation you posted in January. The missing track 2 doesn't seem to be combined with one of the others as far as I can tell. I was wondering if you had this track still, and if there's any chance you could post it separately? It's ok if you don't, I'd just like to know.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great blogging! Your site is the best.
i'll check this and let you know...although combination is an absolutely unknown word for this complilation:)
ReplyDeleteTHANKS never thought i would see Eye here at Mutant sounds.. Excellent post, thanks ALOT. Some of his collaborations are impossible to find!
ReplyDeletei cant seem to extract this album from the zip file... i'm sure i cant be the only one to encounter this problem, hence my posting.
ReplyDeleteit says the file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect. If this means anything to you and could be fixed, or if the album could be re-upped. I would muchly appreciate it.
i'm a huge fan of EYE and have been searching for this release for so long... now that it's finally here, the fact it wont work is such a shame.
if nothing can be done, ty for such an amazing blog as it is. But i had to ask ^__^

ReplyDeleteUse 7zip, not WinZip, in order to unpack certain archives. Use 7zip and you'll never have another problem.

ReplyDeleteThe missing track (#2) on the Boxed Brownies comp. is called "...And People Are Blowing Their Minds" by The Systematics.
No big deal if Track 2 never gets posted, of course. That's a pretty old post now.
Thanks again for all that you and Eric do.

I tried using 7zip and still couldn't get it to work. Can anyone help?
ReplyDeleteANONYMOUS : I DID LIKE THIS :
ReplyDelete1. Open the zip or rar file. Two clicks with the mouse ...
2. Then open the file with the songs to make each individual track file appear on the box
3. Two clicks over each song file to open in Windows Media Player
4. You begin to hear the song ...then click to save each song to the location you choose
5. Repeat these steps to each song ...
I know it's a tedious process but it worked with me ...

Just extract the files as you normally would, ignoring the errors. You should still see new folders being created on your desktop, as you start the extraction process. Open the folders and the music is in them. Honest.

a kind request Eric...if you have :audio sports 3-6-9 ep,please please please post it here
ReplyDeleteIf you're using OS X, unrar will work 90% of the time, but occasionally you unrar won't work wheereas macpar will. So if you're using OS X that may be a solution.
ReplyDeletei'm the original anonymous poster. Just wanted to say, i got the album out, 7zip worked perfectly.
ReplyDeletethank you so much. ^___^
thanks for posting! very interesting!
ReplyDeleteconcerning unzipping: the problem seems to be that a packed folder got a ":" in it. for me ignoring the error messages did not help. but the tool "repairing the archive" in "winrar" did help. an idea: i'd recommend changing the folder name in the packed archive (so that no ":" is included) and then unzipping.
helga cruel
Indeed,7-zip works here, folks;
ReplyDeletein 7-zip, just click on the subfolder (here named "Pipeline") to get the music tracks.
