GOTHIC HUT-S/T, LP, 1982, USA

Recorded some 6-7 years prior to their following two LP's that I've posted and absent any L.A. Free Music Society connections at this early stage (at least that I'm aware of anyway....), this moody slab of post punk is very much guitarist John Dyer's baby and really goes some way toward demonstrating what he (as opposed to L.A.F.M.S. all-star Rick Potts) specifically brought to the picture on those later albums. While Solid Eye's subsequent work may have traded in the more buoyant and playful side of things (albeit in a languid fashion), this eponymous debut takes said languidness for a spin through somewhat more pensive and even solemn territories in a way thats rather haunting and who's potency is further compounded by the inclusion of tense little instrumental nuggets that hover in an eerie half-submerged netherworld not unlike Australia's Laughing Hands.

  1. Hello

Sounds interesting! Like it! But the are all titles twice with other names. Is this correct?

    Greetings

  3. Oooops. Side Two is the same as Side One. (Unless it's supposed to be like that cuz they were being all arty'n'shit?)

But side one was nice stuff, thanks.

  4. Anonymous and mr. fab-you are both of course correct. Extremely sloppy of me there! Oof! All work and no play makes Eric a dull boy. Anyway, I'm recording the B-side right now and re-uploading the corrected version as soon as it's done. Sorry 'bout that one...

  8. isn't the second half of the titles still the same as the first although the link was supposed to be corrected? which is a pity, cause i really appreciate this record!
or is it just me being too stupid to download...?

  9. i know i'm rather late to this discussion but I bought this album back in '82 when I was in High School. It very much influenced me at the time. Upon listening to it again I cannot believe how brilliant it is. It's like Glenn Branca/pre-Sonic Youth chord progressions with whitey-boy blues delivery. Maybe a Neil Young influence here too? hehe Unbelievable the things that slip under the radar. Thanks soooooo much for the shout out to them.
