GREAT IMPERIAL YO-YO "Blink" Tape 1992 & "Chicken Island" CD 1995 (UK)

The GREAT IMPERIAL YO-YO produced some of the best guitar driven neo-psychedelic music of the 90ies.

Owing a debt to the GONG's interpretations of AME SON and OZRIC TENTACLES as well as BONZO DOG BAND's typically english sense of humor, they indulged in a freaky and quite catchy bong influenced hybrid of surrealistic dozes of hard rocking psychedelia, underground progressive and space funk.

Equipped with a devastating humor, the band launches out in space, deliriously punctuated by frenzied saturated guitars and hypnotic rhythms, fluidly floating or orientalizing. A sound, very much in the neo-psych realm, yet very fresh for the 90ies, with outstanding musicianship and well structured compositions.

PS. 1# Guitar wizzard Rat played also with Dr. BROWN on their "Another Realm" (1993) album and contributed to SHIP OF FOOLS "Out There Somewhere" (1994) LP.
2# "Blink" was re-released by belgian Crohinga Well fanzine, as part of the "Mythhs of the Ghandarva: A Lesson in Squirm" (BS006) box set, including second GIYY tape "Toe" (1994), a 12 page booklet and a yo-yo.

Get "Blink" here (part 1 & part2)…

…and "Chicken Island" there (part 1 & part2).

  1. Bloody hell, I haven't heard Blink since my old tape snapped about ten years ago.

TGIYY were a fucking awesome live band back in the early 90s and I had the pleasure of sharing a fair few bills with 'em back then when I was in Skree. My abiding memory of them will always be the withering look that their synth and sampler loon gave to a drunk crusty who lurched over while we were chatting after their set and whilst flicking through TGIYY's sample discs asked "have you got Space Invaders mate?"

Nice to hear these again. Cheers.

  2. OK. TIME TO TURN THE CARDS...
I started a joke, but I found the naked truth. I started it all to test how much freedom the music bloggers think is right to have in their community. But I sadly found A WORLD OF HYPOCRITES.
    I found:
    1) bloggers that everyday steal music, cover arts, album credits and so on from the legal rights owners to post them in their blogs, that becomes crazy of rage if someone takes their (their?) links to do the same thing in another blog, and call leecher - intended as thief - who get the links. Thiefs that call thief who simply amplify their works, that they say is "sharing"! Hypocrites!
    2) a blogger totally fuzzed that owns a blog that do not post anything but only links to other blogs that blacklist a site that do not post but only links! Hypocrite!
    3) bloggers that say that they do their blogs to share their music that are jealous of what they share, and pretend to put rules regarding the use you must do of what they share! Hypocrites!
    4) bloggers that show jelaousy and verbal and ideological violence towards who do not think like them, in a community born for the free exchange of music, experience and culture. Hypocrites!
I started a joke, and what's better than a naked girl (do you really thought I am really interested in such a poor thing like a nude in the modern world yet full of it?) to provoke a reaction and see what kind of people you are? Nobody resists to say something about, and to judge, eventually! And what's better than repost some link! The educations is soon revealed: ChrisGR menace me of a kick in the balls! And how much like sheeps to say: shame... and ready to condamn. For such poor things!
This is your world, a world you made full of hypocrisy, jealuosy and black lists. It' seems to me too similar to some reich we knew... Think about it, bloggers...
And so the game it's over, 'cos I'm yet tired of this all. But at last, I'd like to see if the BIg Chief Fuz will have the balls to publish this. But, sadly, I think no...

  3. Who hurt your feelings, aroundtheblogs?

Have the "balls" to be honest about yourself before sniveling about others' supposed shortcomings.

  4. aroundtheblogs-that sound you hear is the world's smallest violin playing "my heart bleeds for you".

Seriously...we were nice enough to post a link to your blog and your first action is to turn around and vent a load of your pet issues on our comment boards, issues that have nothing whatsoever to do with us. I have no interest in watching a long-winded pissing match ensue from your intentionally provocative comments. You have a blog of your own to rant about all us terrible folks in the music share blog world on, so save us the sob story. It's exhausting and unproductive and exists just to stir up shit.

We run a happy little ship here and this sort of thing is entirely unwelcome.
