STEAMING COILS-COMPLETE: THE ARCHIVE
What follows is both the final part of my campaign of Steaming Coils posts and the final word for enthusiasts of this seminal
L.A. underground project of Brad Laner and David Chrisman: a complete archival haul of all remaining unreleased Steaming Coils material spanning the full length of their career, all direct from the master tapes courtesy of Brad. From the feral teen freakishness of the pre-Steaming Coils PGM (i.e. Prostate Gland Massagers), to the gorgeous material from their abandoned fourth studio album, this is a pure goldmine of insular, hermetic art damage and warped psych pop smarts, with the full array of their musical co-conspirators present here, from the early L.A. Free Music Society-related era that included Rick Potts, Joseph Hammer and Spencer Savage to latter-day accomplices like James Grigsby and Lynn Johnston from The Motor Totemist Guild. A terminal mindfuck of herculean proportions....grab 'em all!

Eric, if you take the time to scan recent TLASILA Blog entries you'll find a, umm, still-warm Steaming Coils/Keith Jarrett/Marian McPartland mashup...
ReplyDeleteBest,
TS
Wow! There goes my download limit for this month! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteThis is so wonderfully crazed. Credit to everyone getting this out to all! (And for anyone interested, Brad's new solo album is excellent.)
ReplyDeleteMany, many thanks! I haven't quit listening to them since you've begun posting SC.
ReplyDeleteI've been listening to their three albums over and over the past week. The music is really gorgeous and inspiring, even more profound and revelatory than I could have expected. I look forward so much to listening to all these unreleased gems. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteGod bless Steaming Coils and Mutant Sounds!
I have in the past mentioned that you all are the best thing on the web. now you have outdone yourselves.
ReplyDeleteThanks
This stuff is so great and mind boggling, I love it. Thanks for posting so much amazing stuff!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteThanks Ned ! fwiw It's out on 11/6 and the packaging came out so great. (hint hint go buy one)
ReplyDeletedadlaner - I forget - did you play in the blue daisies?
ReplyDelete--dad-danny
why yes I did
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful music. I was wondering if you could tell what sessions included the L.A.F.M.S?
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the hard work that you had to do to make this massive posting.
the "le forte four studio" folder and the first KPFK session in the live folders represent of all the remaining material featuring Rick Potts and Joseph Hammer that didn't make it onto the first LP.
ReplyDeleteBlue Daisies rules! I've got a cassette and LP - what else is there?
ReplyDeleteHey Brad, I'm putting out a Bpeople anthology on my label - contact me for me info (danny@warninglabelrecords.com).
The cassette and LP is all there is. Nic and Jeffrey went on to do the "Blissed out Fatalists" LP and Nate went on to the band "What Makes Donna Twirl".
ReplyDeleteWhat's the current word on the Monitor CD ?
Brad, any idea when Hometapes is going to have "Neighbor Singing" up for sale on their site? It's not up yet for pre-order. "Arlie" & "June Gloom" sound superb and can't wait to get my hands (ears?) on the whole thing.
ReplyDeletep.s. Terrific album cover, too!
I remember those other bands.
ReplyDeleteRE: Monitor, Michael and gang submitted a book proposal to Princeton (who have been putting out some cool books recently) and hope to get word on their interest. I'm dying to get the CD out there. This is the ultimate slow project. If it were me just releasing the record on CD it would have been done about three years ago. I had the masters in my hand at one point and should have bopped the "owner" on the head and stole them!
... oh what joy!!
ReplyDeleteOOPS!! The first part of Secret Messages seems to be damaged... Can you fix that? A big 'Thank you' from France for your wonderful blog and discernment.
ReplyDeleteBrad's new album "Neighbor Singing" is now available from our site. Go here to get it:

Wow, I can't wait to download all of this. I bought 'Never Creak' on vinyl a few weeks back and I am excited to check this out
ReplyDeleteIt took me 3 years to hunt down all 3 Steaming Coils albums and the To Nije Sala split, and then you do this! Thanks for the great stuff.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if it's possible for you to reupload that lost Steaming Coils album. I played a Steaming Coils song from Breaded on my Radio Show on Mutant Pop on an FM station/website called Greener Futures (link to the show can be found here: http://www.archive.org/details/4simonmutantpop), but if there's anything half as good as that album out there, I'd love to hear it.
ReplyDeleteA thousand salaams!
SinAgog-Not sure what you're referring to here, as all the links on this post are still active/
ReplyDeleteOK, that is very bizarre. I tried at various points over a few months to get it to work, but it never did. I try two seconds ago, and it's working!!!
ReplyDeleteWell...I'm not complaining. Thanks for getting back to me so quick, and keep up the awesome work.
OK, maybe I was a bit hasty there. I clicked the download button and it took me to the "You have another download active" menu (which I can assure you, I don't). I've tried to get the album on a few different computers now, and it's the same problem...
ReplyDeleteI don't know if you've got a minute or two to spare, but try downloading it yourself and I'm pretty sure you'll be in the same boat. Rapidshare's normally OK; this is the first album this has happened to. Not sure what they've got against awesome art-pop albums... :/
Hi, can you please upload Unfinished again? The album isn't downloading, no matter how many times I try it. Thanks for the awesome work!
ReplyDeleteThese two files are offline right now and all the others are online:

I'm a big Steaming Coils fan on the basis of having the Breaded CD for the past 15 years, but I've never heard all this other stuff, so this is wonderful.
