BRAD LANER & RICK POTTS-FIGURINES (UNRELEASED), 1999, USA

Somehow, this dizzying collaboration between these two L.A. Free Music Society maestros mysteriously failed to garner a proper release (any takers?), so it's a particular pleasure to be able to present this cracked masterpiece to the patrons of Mutant Sounds (courtesy once again of Brad). Humor is remorselessly abused via dadaist ditherings and deformed cut-ups (the shadow of Nurse With Wound's Registered Nurse collage looming particularly large on some of the bits here) while frequencies tweeze and shatter on impact against a variegated palate of sonics that slink and slurp in a style that touches on tangents explored by both of their concurrent projects of the era (Electric Company and Solid Eye respectively) while still managing to lob umpteen curveballs in the direction of anyone who thinks they could casually suss out the warped strategems at play here. A simultaneous sloppy kiss and big wet raspberry from these two master pranksters, this slaphappy gem is calling out for you to lend your ears to it.

  1. Awesome, thanks! Love those figurines, too.

Is the phone #/address printed on the cd cover still valid? I live around the corner!

  4. I dig the writing! And I'm PAID to be a critic. The music's not bad also.
