Gli Astrali-Viaggio Allucinogeno,LP,1967,Italy

Wonderful out there psych /beat LP from these Italian acid heads,in the great tradition of Rokes,Templari,Fantom's,La Stelle Di Mario Schifano, etc.Reminding a mix of early Pink Floyd with "Banana" era Velvets. Great haunting hammond driven psych beat.Contains 3 covers of Byrds,Yardbirds and Standells respectively.

  2. Totally weird! The long freaked out last track has a bit towards the beginning (starting a minute and a half in) that bears a positively eerie resemblance to part 2 of the Butthole Surfers' "Jimi" (the bowling music). I wonder if Paul Leary ever heard this record!

  3. I'm digging these sounds as well! You guys keep slinging the best stuff... so hard to keep up!
Any chance you can add a link to my new (currently meager) blog? I love all of the stuff you guys are posting, and hope to add my own context to some of it, and maybe even surprise you with some down under obscurities! Thanks in advance *NEIL*

  5. Despite what the credits say, it's pretty clearly Kevin on guitar and Oldfield on bass, unfortunately his nimble playing is not very audible most of the time. Still, this is a treat. Makes me want to hear the recently released Hyde Park Concert, of similar vintage with the added attraction of Robert Wyatt on the drums.

  6. Whoops, posted my comment on the wrong thread. It was intended for the Kevin Ayers and the Whole Wide World.

  10. anonymous-did you happen to notice that this one was posted by mutantsounds and not by vdoandsound? the 256 thing only applies to my posts. Jim (mutantsounds) routinely used to post at both 192 and 256.

  13. This band from Turin, North of Italy, was little known at the time. But word of their controversial gigs involving nudity, free sex and acid has been spreading again since this record has been reissued, salvaged from a badly stored tape, that an associate of italian label, destination x has got from the very hands of the singer/guitarist, Dante in 1995.
