STEVE THOMSEN-RETROSPECTIVE II, CDR, 2002 + RETROSPECTIVE III, CDR, 2002, USA
Following my post of his initial Retrospective CD on Transparency, here are the subsequent volumes 2 and 3 by this L.A. Free Music Society mage and former member of both Monitor and Solid Eye (both posted elsewhere on MS) that were self-released on CDR on his own imprint. The through-line of Thomsen's sonic universe (at least on his solo ventures) has always been a syrupy viscousness, through which his faded cycles of cheerfully cod-spooky and askew melodics pulse. Imagine a cough syrup-addled Danny Elfman orchestrating a Krofft Superstars inversion of Asmus Tietchens' frosty cyclical wooze works under his Mechthild Von Leusch alias and pressing the results on aged wax cylinder discs. The glazed is paramount in Thomsen's fishbowl universe and it's protoplasmic essence ensnares my consciousness like a venus fly trap every time I come within it's soporific forcefield.

and to top it off, Steve was/is an AMAZING visual artist of the highest caliber.

ReplyDeleteRedownload the file if it's asking you for a password. Hundreds of people have downloaded the file you're referring to and didn't need a password.
ReplyDeletethese are incredible. any chance you might post the swan trove 'happy land of rest' cdr that i believe are joe hammer's tape loop manipulations of steve's optigan diddies? thanks
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for these. Thomsen's work is highly addictive. Brilliant stuff.
ReplyDeleteStill waiting for "Folding Pineapple"!
Zshare is all stupid now. The other day it was doing maintenance and when the site got back up, you go through the motions but when the click here to download shows up and you click it, it takes you back to the first page you were at before waiting, no download starts. Could you up somewhere that's not messed up like Megaupload or Rapidshare, Easyshare, Filefactory etc etc, PLEASE, I want to check these out.
ReplyDeleteYou did not re-up yet. Please, go to the links for zshare and see what I mean. It takes you back to the original screen and does not allow download.
ReplyDeleteDEAD LINKS!!!
conjunction vitus-it does appear that z-share is now crapping out. Yikes! I'll get this and the handful of other titles I've used z-share for re-upped soon using sharebee.
ReplyDeleteCool. They had done a code upgrade, but looks like they have some links crossed, lol. I'll keep checking. Will the links be re-upped here, for this one?
ReplyDeleteStill waiting on these, lol. Have you checked this blog out - http://sickness-abounds.blogspot.com/ ?
ReplyDeleteThere is tons of excellent stuff there, TONS. If you like weird, noisy, strange music.
Still not able to download. I thought you were going to up them to a better place like rapidshare or megaupload.
ReplyDeleteOkay, zshare is working now, but the zshare links for this title are dead. PLEASE RE-UP, PLEASE PLEASE PERDY PERDY PLEASE!!!!
