Social Climbers-st,3x7" or LP,1980,USA

Wonderful post punk combo from Indiana. Old drum machine,pre Sonic Youth-ish no wave attitude, Devo-ish robotic synth tunes.The only weak point is the voice,but the overall result is very goog indeed. Released through Goulcher label as 3X7" and later through Hoboken label as 12" LP.

    I think I got my first peek of them off the Homework series from Hyped2Death. Great DIY indie rock sound from what I remember.

    i'm speechless! it's one of my bloody all-time-top-ten lp's. cherished this on tape for 18 years, couldn't find it ANYWHERE else, and now voila!
    the guitar player, Mark Bingham, played in Glenn Branca's orchestra. i guess it's out on cd, but haven't come across one.

    darek--->this was never released on cd...this rip must be from the 12" version although the LP contains only 9 songs...this rip is not mine as i have the 7" s first edition and believe me the sound is much much worse than the sound here

    yep, the rip is by myself - first 9 songs are from the 12" LP via a tape, plus non-LP track 10 which i found on Soulseek. two songs off the LP appeared on some compilations and i also have them in mp3's. it's a pleasure to contribute to your blog! i'm still pretty sure i read about a cd of this being released in the late 90s. a small pressing maybe.

    Hey great post, thanks. I just put this on CD from my old (but clean) album and found your site while looking for the track titles at work. I disagree with the comment on the poor vocals. I think they have a nice feel to them, match the subject matter and compliment the overall compositions. One track (#9) has some very effective female vocal interplay as well. Good of you to spread this stuff around. An overlooked gem.

    Yes im reading it Heath!!! (3 years later) I indeed find a stack of these. But it was at a book sale at the Bloomington library. Just found out its getting reissued by Drag City.
