FISH & ROSES-S/T, 12" E.P., 1987, USA





The debut missive from this downtown NY outfit featuring Rick Brown (V-Effect, Run On, Les Batteries) and vocalist Sue Garner (well before homespun winsomeness would lead her to pastures well outside my remit on albums for Thrill Jockey) deftly juggles aspects of the late-model Etron Fou Leloublan-like angular R.I.O. motion that made Brown's work in V-Effect such a event with the supple roiling grooves and effervescent left field oddity characteristic of fellow scene travellers like Skeleton Crew, No Safety and Curlew.

    Note to downloaders: Please use 7-zip to extract the latest posts from Eric (if you have trouble extracting). I ran into problems trying to extract using WinRAR, Winzip, etc.

    hey- always thought fish& roses were a real mixed bag but "have a nice day & fried rice" on here is such a good demento art rant & makes this well worth checking out. this seems like a good place to renew my request for les batteries' "noisy champs"- also, anyone know where to find anything by rick brown's no-wave outfit Information?

    Well, I could go downstairs, root around for an hour, pull out the vinyl (I used to have two copies of this for some reason), clean it off, throw it on the turntable and sit in the dark to listen...or just download it while I catch up on my reading and enjoy! Thanks!

    The Letter is F&R covering a Harry Partch tune, from his hobo songs period. Les Batteries covered the same one on Noisy Champs.

    Gidouille's got it wrong. F&R's "The Letter" is an original, which we re-recorded later on our 3rd record Dear John. Les Batteries covered Partch's song, though, yes.
