VAGTAZO HALOTTKEMEK-A HALAL MORESRE TANITASA (TEACH DEATH A LESSON), LP, 1988, HUNGARY

Playing what they describe as shamanic psychedelic hardcore, this utterly unique and slightly unreal Hungarian crew (whose name translates to The Galloping Coroners) unleash dense blasting waves of concentrated psychedelic otherness on their debut outing here and in so doing, anticipate a raft of later (and still ongoing) developments, particularly the psychedelia-as-collapsing-black-hole aesthetic of the crowd associated with Japan's PSF-label, with Hawkwind-like power drives imploding into fields of fierce abstracted motion.

  2. I think the first two photos actually are their 1991 LP "Jumping Out the World," whereas the "alternate front cover" is the correct cover of the 1988 LP "Teach Death a Lesson."
    They're both great albums, though!

  6. VHK is the best thing to come from my country in 50 years! Have seen them a number of times, their shows are always a trance!

My favourite record is Óriás Tér (Giant Space) It's not that rare, it was recorded live, they remind me of a hungarian Amon Düül II :)

  7. This is awesome. That Amon Duul comparison is apt although these guys have a more punk/hawkwind feel. Love this a TON.

  8. TYVM! Always keen to hear earlier VHK. 'Naptanc' was a bit clean & restrained for my tastes.

  9. Kornél: Wrong! :D They are only the second best thing... right after A.E. Bizottság. :)

But yeah, this album is a real classic. It is an extremely unique and hauntingly beautiful album made of pure, raw energy.

  11. Killer! One of Hungary's best to be sure, along with A.E. Bizottság and Ápolók.

  12. OMG, glad to find this. Saw them live in cologne about 1990. In Germany they called themselves "Die rasenden Leichenbeschauer" So thats why it was so difficult to find records.

It was an outstanding psychedelic and shamanistic show. Can still remember the bassman standing the whole show on one leg...

    Thanks!!!
