THE CHRIS HINZE COMBINATION-SISTER SLICK, LP, 1974, NETHERLANDS
A dazzling, whirligig funky fusion masterpiece from one Holland's greatest contributors to the genre and with a seriously monster all star-cast on this one, including both Supersister's Robert Jan Stips and Association P.C./Pork Pie's Jasper Van't Hof on keys, guitarist Philip Catherine (Pork Pie, Sunbirds...a million others) and the legendary itinerant fusion rhythm section of John Lee and Jerry Brown. Flautist Chris Hinze had by this point already amassed a sizeable discography, both with the varying lineups of his Combination and with his solo outings, where he did covers of everything from Bach and Vivaldi to Bacherach. Here, this crew are absolutely sailing, with a super juiced up and fluid approach to the form that sits somewhere between Michal Urbaniak's Fusion and Solution's debut.

As soon as i saw the cover i thought this looks familiar. i am sure i had a copy of this quite a while ago, although I don't remember the music itself( I proberly didn't listen to it that much)I definatly was into this type of music back then and it still sounds excellent today, thanks for bringing this back to my attention.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've got this one, but the album "Mission Suite" by the same group is even better.
ReplyDeleteTotally agree that "Mission Suite" is even better.
ReplyDeleteand, "Stoned Flute" is just as good as this one, so be sure to listen to both of those , as well.

For those who haven't had the pleasure of hearing it, I found Mission Suite at a current blog (not mine)...
