UPLOAD SOLUTIONS ARE IN THE WORKS

First, I'd like to take the time to truly thank those of you who were kind enough to offer to help with the process of re-upping the downed content on Mutant Sounds. To that end, it was very encouraging to read about the soon-to-be hosting service Righthaven, that's being actively touted by the folks at Boing Boing right now here

Once Righthaven goes live (which it seems like it might be doing within weeks), I can begin to coordinate with the handful of beautiful humans who've chosen to lend a hand in getting all of our downed content back up and running.

Stay tuned...

  6. In my experience, it doesn't pay to go with vaporware. So I'd think instead of Rapidshare, which has always been reliable for me, but I'm only a non-paying user.

  15. Hi guys! Hope Mutant Sounds will stay up and you'll find a solution, because it was such a unique blog it has become almost patrimonial, if I may speak so...

  17. I would like to say thank you for soldiering on despite the hand that has been dealt to you recently.

I can also help you with re-upping content as I have been a faithful visitor of Mutant Sounds since it's start back in 2007.

Please let me know how I can help in the General comments on my blog.

I am also looking for a file-sharing solution, and would be interested to hear how Righthaven works for you, as I've heard that Mediafire may be in danger of going down as well.

    Best, Kevin

  18. I only have DSL but would be willing to chip in what I can. I've d'l'ed a hell of a lot of stuff off this site over the years. Certainly almost any artist on the "Cheeses" list I could re-contribute, albeit slowly.
Get in touch if you need my help- you should have my e-mail address already...

  23. Hey there ... I'm writing up a story for The Brooklyn Rail for their March issue on the MegaUpload shut-down and the subsequent fall-out in the music-blogging community.

I'd like to briefly talk with a couple of people whose blogs were directly affected by this, and I gather that Mutant Sounds was one of them.

Anyway, if you'd be open to a brief email exchange that I might draw from for this article, please let me know: garypsullivan at gmail dot com ... thanks!

  36. I am also down to join the uploading bandwagon. A huge part of my life over the past four/five years and have most of the content. Lets do this RIGHTHAVEN

  37. Hey there. Thanks for working towards this. I have a bunch of random dl's as well. I'll email you about it.

I wanted to post this though, in case it might be useful:

    https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2012/01/eff-requests-information-innocent-megaupload-users

It has information on how to retrieve files. I assume you have backups, but in case you don't and don't want to re-rip some of the albums..

Also, there is another potential solution I thought of to have on the backburner. It might actually be a lot easier, though. There are various services, such as sparkleshare.org and aerofs.com (still in beta) that allow you to set up your own server as a dropbox/megaupload style sharing mechanism. Maybe just as backup, in case the other sites you use now or in the future go down. It would also be a very easy way to distribute the files to have a distributed re-upload campaign. You could share the entire library folder with people willing to help, and then we could just check off which ones have been uploaded on a document in the same folder. easy.

  38. What you guys are doing is music but as for some other things out there I wish true musicians would stand up for music. Some things are ARTISTIC expression and then other things are merely public masterbation....I don't know if anyone else is brave enough in the music world to confront this but promotion of foolish cultures in music MUST STOP!!! Please SHARE! Help this GO WORLD WIDE if you LOVE what Music and Art should be.

  46. Trust the network!

You should really consider using bittorrent to spread your datalove! Bittorrent is by its nature decentralized, contrary to whateverupload, centralized platform that is therefore prone to takedown and various forms of censorship!

With bittorrent, all your listeners could participate in the effort of maintaining goodies alive. And it would take more than a FBI raid to take it down... the day Hollywood & all will (continue to) attempt to censor communications globally, in order to take that down, we'll be in the streets anyway ;)

Take care and keep on flowing the good vibes, beats and datalove! <3
