MEDIAFIRE WIPEOUT AND THE SAVED-BY-THE-BELL OF RAPIDSHARE (FOR NOW, AT LEAST!)

MUCH AS I FEARED THEY MIGHT, THE BASTARDS AT MEDIAFIRE JUST REMOVED ALL OF THE CONTENT THAT I'VE RE-UPPED TO THEIR SITE OVER THESE LAST WEEKS (I.E. ALL OF THE CONTENT THAT HAD BEEN DOWN FROM THE PREVIOUS MEGAUPLOAD SHUTDOWN DATING FROM MARCH 2011 FORWARD) AS OF EARLIER TODAY. AS IT HAPPENS, BASED UPON THE POSSIBILITY OF JUST SUCH AN EVENTUALITY, I'VE BEEN IN THE PROCESS OF RE-UPPING THIS VERY SAME CONTENT TO RAPIDSHARE, WITH THE MAJORITY OF THOSE TO DEBUT CIRCA TOMORROW NIGHT. THUS, LINKS TO THIS NEWLY DOWNED CONTENT WILL BE BACK UP AND SHORTLY, AS WILL, RELATIVELY SOON, ALL THE OTHER DOWNED CONTENT FROM THE MEGAUPLOAD DEBACLE AND ALL OF IT NOW TO BE SHARED VIA RAPIDSHARE ALONE, GIVEN THE DISAPPEARANCE OF ALL OTHER VIABLE OPTIONS. EVEN WITH THE TIL NOW RELIABLE RAPIDSHARE, I WILL NOW OPT TO USE ONLY INITIALS TO IDENTIFY MY FILES FROM NOW ON WITH ALL THE FUTURE TITLES THAT I UPLOAD WITH THEM (BEYOND THOSE THAT I'VE ALREADY UPLOADED TO THEIR SITE WITH FULL NAMES EARLIER THIS WEEK). GIVEN THEIR SWISS LOCATION, ALL SHOULD STILL BE OKAY WITH THEM, BUT THIS CONTENT POLICING IS GETTING FUCKING RIDICULOUS AND YOU CAN'T BE TO CAUTIOUS NOW.

ANYWAY, EXPECT RE-UPS OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED CONTENT BY TOMORROW AND NEW POSTS BY THURSDAY OR FRIDAY, DEPENDING ON HOW FRIED I AM FROM CONTENDING WITH ALL THIS BS.

  2. RS is Austrian. A German court has declared it as illegal in Germany and this means (or, might mean soon), the end of all that is Rapid-Share... rapidly.

    Take heed, son.

  3. I cannot believe this. Having to constantly re-up content you just finished salvaging must be absurdly frustrating and soul-crushing. Thanks for not giving up and continuing to fight the good fight. I love the work you do for mutantsounds.

  5. I think RapidShare will be OK, they've been very consistent all these years, the only ones like that. Austrians have big tough chins.

  9. Hello, VDO. When using bittorrent you don't depend on any crappy cyber-locker. Maintaining of your posts wouldn't be your problem anymore, but depends entirely on your readers. Imho, it's the best solution to save the archives of this wonderful blog.
Thank you for the new posts.

  12. Have you tried dropmark.com it's simple and small enough to not have much scrutiny.

  19. Thank you for not giving up! This blog is awesome and I would hate to see it die.

May I recommend for the future, instead of hosting all your files on a single provider (MU, MF, and now RS), you should use multiple providers simultaneously in order to distribute your risk. For instance, I recommend mirrorcreator.com and sharebee.com as a means of uploading a single file to many filehosting sites at once. Much safer :)

    Thanks again!

  20. What a mess. Any band or artist would be (and most surely are) PROUD to have their music lovingly presented here. Your efforts on their—and our—behalf are legendary and appreciated.

  22. surprisingly, my meager cache of files still exists at mediafire, thought this was another case of megupload burn, don't know why yours would have been burned but it does seem to be happening every now & then with mediafire as some other blogs have had theirs removed also,
keep up the good workk though, please & thanks flor all the great obscure stuff,

  23. I agree with you all this thing is so fukin fukin crazy and who let get us to this situation i do not know!
We are only dealing download with th eclear intent and pleasure to LISTEN TO MUSIC THAT IS HARD TO GET and so all these shut down from host site is really a comic thing : how still we have to battle into this thing for a pure SPIRITUAL PLEASURE.

    keep on the good work!

ITALIAN CDR ARMY IS WITH YOU!

  24. Wow.

MS has to be the great, great grand-pappar of all things obscure and vital i.e. arcane music blogs.

    Cheers from NYC, BTW!

I've been snooping 'round MS for years, and I've pulled many mind-blowers (cannot thank you enough. really mean that)

I am all too sure that you (likely) are near saturation insofar as fielding requests for specific re-ups.

But still! ..... I'll take my chances by asking this here....

"The Thing From The Crypt" (1981), volume one LP.

If... that one gets a re-up... well... it'll make me get all jocose!

In any event.... thank you for all the time and research / info. This blog truly is the apotheosis of
    all things awesome.

  25. Zippyshare?

they seem good... but who knows if and when they too might cave-in.

Zippyshare has no waiting or download limits.

Truthfully, I do not know enough about it, but..

It seems hassle-free to use (*I'm just talking as an
individual downloader of media from other folks' blogs)

Holy Warbles is no more... It'd be a real crime to lose Mutant Sounds and/or Systems Of Romance. Two of the greatest!

  27. rapidshare isn't that great of an option anymore. they're throttling download speed for free users in an attempt to divert "piracy" to other fileshare sites. files that used to take only a few minutes now can take up to an hour to download. fileserve and wupload have now gone the route of filesonic after paramount pictures recently published their 5 most wanted list:

    http://torrentfreak.com/mpaa-targets-fileserve-mediafire-wupload-putlocker-and-depositfiles-120331/

jumbofiles is as fast as mediafire with no wait time or captchas, but we'll have to see how long before they cave in to hollywood pressure. all of this is just going to drive everyone to torrents, and tor/onion... and don't forget the upcoming ip server clampdowns:

    http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2012/03/riaa-and-isps-to-police-your-traffic-starting-july-12.ars

...include google/blogger deleting blogs left and right, and this means black clouds on the horizons, my friends...

  28. By enabling people discover music they probably would never have heard of otherwise, music blogs multiply the oportunities of buying records. It helps lesser known artists to be discovered. Simple equation : how could one buy something one does'nt know it exists ? 99% of the records I buy were downloaded before. Mighty respects for your dedication.

  29. rapidshare is from switzerland not austria! they are deleting files too..not only reported files..they suck too.. slowed down for free members..will make more money with paying members, thanks swiss you need the money

  30. @Anon.:
Austrian. Its HQs are situated in Switzerland (RapidShare A.G.).

Fer fawk's sake: stop reading a dumber-than-dirt Wiki page and then think that you 'techno-it-all', son.

    Wikiots, indeed.

  31. P2P. Jumping from one legally beleaguered drop box to another is a waste of time. Filesharing will have to be done via open source, decentralised networks. Bittorrent, P2P networks, etc. with rips announced on blogs hosted not by Google.

  32. Btw my computer lately has been blocking sharebee links, saying sharebee has been reported as an 'attack site'. No idea if this is true or just a scare to try to keep traffic away. Certainly some of these file sharing services are suspicious with all the pop-ups and other weirdness. RS has generally been good, but the recent speed-throttling mentioned above is a pain - most times the download siezes up part way through and will not pick up where it left off. Spending an hour or more trying to get one file then having to start over (after the waiting period has elapsed) is a mega pain. But, can't complain given the way things are generally these days...
Keep up the good work MS!

    best wishes
    Chris
