DIE TRIP COMPUTER DIE-BLIND PUPPIES, CDR, ????, +SHORTER CIRCUITS, CDR, ????, + ALL SHAG RINGO, CDR, ????, UK
What we have here is, in some respects, the rarest ever Homosexuals-related material. Never particularly intended for public consumption, the still-going duo of Jim Whelton (i.e. Xentos, L.Voag etc) and Lepke Buchwater (Milk From Cheltenham) have, to date, issued 3 "proper" releases: Stadium Death, We Are Your Friends and Die Like A Rock. There have however been three more private releases (at least that I'm aware of) that were only ever handed out to the band's inner circle. As I am not one of the band's inner circle, I only have xeroxes of the covers, but I think the importance of having this material in circulation renders that factoid irrelevant in this instance. Absolutely zero information is available online about these releases (hence the question marks for release dates), other than that they've been played on Tony Coulter's superb WFMU radio show.
Blind Puppies- The unctuous applications of "avant schmaltz" (to lift an L.A.F.M.S.-ism) that have helped to define DTCD's zany public profile (whatever that means for a group this sub-underground) are still much at play here, but, so too is the sort of faux spookiness that I also associate with L.A.F.M.S.; in this case their contemporary manifestation as Extended Organ. Cosmic electronics get rudely cross-cut by sampladelic sub-moronic cultural soundbytes and a damaged extended mix of their twisted pop classic "America's Burning" bleeds into an etude for Muzak and effected gargling. And so it goes for 70 minutes...
Shorter Circuits- Starting out with a particularly extended atmospheric foray for the boys here (at least by their antic standards), though atmospheric in this case refers to an eerie digital distention of easy listening. Sample triggered dada disruptions continue to jocularly stagger into the mix, but often enough, so too does a hazing out of the sample source that integrates rather than fragments whatever it counterpoints. The second half of this iterates a different set of DTCD's aesthetic obsessions, in that it hews to the most winning dimension of their publicly available work: the dada pop song constructed from the pop culture's sonic detritus.
All Shag Ringo- Inane half heard samples bleed though tidal drifts of 10th-generation-copy 70's soap opera soundtracks, occasionally cycling within spitting distance of Sylvie And Babs and operating in direct parallel to the cultural-autopsy-as-easy-listening aesthetic of Shorter Circuits Vol. 1.

The August 2006 issue of The Wire ( the one with Smegma's glamour girl on the cover ...) had a two-page feature about Die Trip Computer Die but there's nothing said about these recordings ...
Joe Seph
Joe Seph-I read that article and noticed that too. That doesn't surprise me at all though. Obscurantism is the hallmark of almost all Whelton's creative doings, so why not private releases for only "those in the fold"? Whatever the case, their legitimacy is not in dispute, as I got them from a writer for The Wire :-)
vdoandsound : hey, when I said "but there's nothing said about these recordings ..." , I was not doubting about their legitimacy... I was thinking about the words on your post : "Absolutely zero information is available online about these releases ". I was thinking that said article would have some information about these recordings. But, alas, no ... :-)
the link to Get Shorter Circuits Vol. 1 does not work ...

Sorry there is not much info out about these recordings. All I can add is most of them are live and were recorded sometime between 1996 and 2006. There must be about 17 unreleased dtcd cds (well not so many now these are available..!)The three 'official' CDs are studio recordings and took years to make. More downloads available at our My Space site. There is a new CD of very old Lepke/Zentos material (pre dtcd) called 'modern shit' available on an Italian lable and a new CD from Lucas Simone & Zentos called 'Perfect Vacuum - A guide to the music of the 21st century'. There is also a new band '2 square why?' recoding at 'Beefy & Figaros' the dtcd studios. I didn't realise there was any interest in this material. The truth is we are useless at self promotion, real crap. Can't build a web site or organise a bone for a cyberdog. Help! More info etc on My Space, or write 'dietripcomputerdie@yahoo.com' or 'tedbarrow@yahoo.com'
Thanks, Ted
ps also coming soon 'the Bruno Ganz Show' on You Tube
Many epsodes of 'the Harmon E Phraisyer Show' available as podcasts from ResonanceFM website. Written by Zentos, featuring dtcd and friends.
Also coming soon 'mistaken identity' short film by Bing Selfish and Zentos featuring music by dtcd & Bing and starring all the above....
I'm listening to Shorter Circuits now & have to say that it's absolutely fantastic. "Summer Evilings" is one of the finest, most riveting 20 mins' worth of absolute weirdness I've heard in ages... (thanks!)
All Shag Ringo is delightful sick fun, thank you for these rare delicacies. I hate to be a bore, but the link to Blind Puppies part two is down.
