DER SCHWARZE KANAL-LIVE, TAPE, 1983, GERMANY

Newly expunged from the deepest bowels of Geniale Dilettanten Neue Duetsche Welle tape culture, this dystopian crew generate drifts of morose atmospherics cut by arc-welded metal squeals and corroded clatter, exploiting the innards of collapsed new buildings for maximal sonic decrepitude.

KICKBIT INFORMATION-BITKICKS, CD, 1998 (RECORDED: 1975), GERMANY

Pure krautrock gravy from the loins of some of its finest architects, the hairy jazz rock blowout herein being choice enough to even overlook the gristly and distorted warts-and-all recording quality of these never-intended-for-release rehearsal room recordings. Led by Ex-Guru Guru and future Spacebox bassist Uli Trepte, this briefly assembled outfit (which also featured Frumpy's Carsten Bohn and Thirsty Moon's Willi Pape) churn out three slabs of classic kraut fusion here in the rawboned and hectic style that Trepte would soon carry forward with Spacebox.

ELECTRIC SUN FEATURING JOHN KING-S/T, CD, 1993, JAPAN/USA

Featuring God Mountain label head and idiosyncratic ivory tickler Hoppy Kamiyama (Optical*8/Daimonji/Saboten etc...), Bass Army/Dragon Blue/Death Ambient bassist Kato Hideki, improv polymath and serial turntable abuser Otomo Yoshide and frequent Toshinori Kondo collaborator Hideo Yamaki and fronted on this occasion by visiting Downtown NY string slinging eccentric John King (known for his collabs with David Moss, which I've posted elsewhere), this was both a brilliant genre defining label statement for Hoppy's imprint (home to seminal discs by Koenjihyakkei, Bondage Fruit and Tipographica among others) and a wildly sprawling and absurd mess, often simultaneously, with cascades of technicolor wet key splatter pummeling greasy bar band funk into submission as blazing arcs of bombast and dadaist antics cut across the mix quaquaversally.

V.A.-ER IST TIEF UND DIEN WASSER IST DUNKLER, LP, 1991, VARIOUS

The cooly deliberate and considered aesthetic stance promulgated by Quiet Artworks during their brief existence is finely distilled on this compendium of curious electronic and concrete explorations. Divided between just four parties, there's lots to admire here, from Arcane Device's waves of thrum, squeal, wobble and whistle teased from his self designed feedback systems to PFN's computer tweezed clatter, though it's C-Schulz (aka Carsten Schulz, one time member of Pol, Blockwart and Kontakta) whose track is gonna inspire hearts to beat the fastest here, methinks; his inky black propulsive pound and unsettling claustrophobic mix existing at an intersection between Bruce Gilbert, late model Art Zoyd and Stephan Wittwer's soundtrack for Der Rechte Weg.

Track listing:

1. PFN-Die Wellen In Honen Wellen Davon 1+2
2. Yeast Culture-9328 Biocarrier
3. Arcane Device-Zero Crossing
4. C-Schulz-Schwellen

V/A-DIX-HUIT SURPRISES POUR NOEL!, LP, 1981, FRANCE

As a Happy Hollandaise gesture from MS HQ, here's an exquisite curio cabinet of French marginalia that'll blow a few welcome raspberries into any holiday gathering you'd care to unleash it in. Issued on a sub-imprint of the notorious French Scopa Invisible label (Incontinents, Lucas Trouble, Tango Luger etc...), this compendium features lotsa intriguing unknown quantities along with a few more name brand experimentalists (relatively speaking), like former ZNR member Hector Zazou and longstanding avant garde collective Un Drame Musicale Instantane, most of it wonderfully fractured stuff in the grand French what-the-fuck? tradition.

Track listing:

Michel Risse-Pour En Finir Avec Jingle Bells

SUBURBAN LAWNS-BABY, 12" EP, 1983, USA

In which our So-Cal paragons of nutty spasmodic new wave angularity suddenly get proactive with the production values, the Devo-esque polka dotted herky jerk displayed on their eponymous debut (shared elsewhere on MS) accumulating additional layers of Speaking In Tongues-like polyrhythmic densities, spiky Aladdin Sane piano runs and studio tweaked vocal malarky on this follow up EP (their last), before taking an unexpected turn into Siouxsie And The Banshees territory on the final two cuts. Very fine.

LT. CARAMEL-S/T, TAPE, 198?, FRANCE

Following a raft of previous shares of material by this French experimental electronic musician (including work under the moniker Pierre Bouchet and as a member of Denier Du Culte), here's an obscure tape full of strange pulsations, inane mutterings, electroacoustic swarms and subterranean surrealist menace, all formulated with the deft organizational touch that those familiar with Messr. Blanchard's work have come to expect.

TERROR VISION-O.S.T. (THE FIBONACCIS/RICHARD BAND), LP, 1986, USA

Given that their Civilization And Its Discotheques LP is apparently due to be reissued shortly, this will be my final Fibs post. Its a corker though, or at least the A side that they're the authors of is, Richard Band's incidental Fairlight wanderings on the flip not meriting much discussion. The soundtrack for a self conscious attempt at a midnight movie that seemed amusing enough to my teenage brain (not sure how it'd fare after all these years, though) The A side sees these terminally tongue in cheek L.A. eccentrics taking on overtones of Oingo Boingo on the title track, dipping a toe back into the instrumental Morricone casio wave of their debut EP and tearing through one of Maggie Song's most riveting performances on the haunted house art pop of He Can't Stop Laughing.

RUNZELSTIRN & GURGELSTOCK-MORX UND KOTSCHLAG, CD, 1994, SWITZERLAND

Spearheaded by Aktionist acolyte and genial madman Rudolv Eb.Er, these Swiss deviants (documented elsewhere on MS) use the extended CD format here to enact a form of dadaist endurance test, exploring over one unbroken 74 minute track extremes of unhinged art abuse and glottal torture that sound like Yamatsuka Eye attacking a pack of dobermans with a toy accordion and a bicycle horn.

THE FOURTH VDOANDSOUND VINYL AUCTION

Not as many this time and not all vinyl, but lots of very rare items regardless, including a Volcano The Bear rarity that ebay killed for contravening it's CDR policy, but that is offered for sale outright off the same page where the hyperlinks are to the auctions Here

V/A-DIE VIZEWELTMEISTER, TAPE, 1982, GERMANY

An iconic and cornerstone document of the Neue Deutsche Welle tape scene, with fully three of the knockout bits here (by Roter Stern Belgrad, Ankles and Gorilla Aktiv) having already been revived on other archival releases. that said, it's just as often the lesser knowns that turn in eye opening material, ranging from Sueno Sueno's paradoxical lumbering skank and offhand chic to a synth blasted jazz curio from the Hans Kopf Terzett that sounds like an outtake from Jacques Thollot's Watch Devil Go.

Track listing:

Dunkelziffer-Shadogs
Familie Hesselbach-Nicht Nur Tango
Romy Kindermann-Rororo
S.Y.P.H.-Kein Herz Fur Kinder
Erwin Brautigam Quintett-Dim The Light

JANKO NILOVIC-PERCUSSIONS DANS L'ESPACE, LP, 1970, YUGOSLAVIA

My second album share from this revered Yugoslavian-by-way-of-France library music composer, Percussions Dans L'Espace (issued on the Montparnasse 2000 label) departs a bit from the Vampiros Lesbos style exploitation psych of his Supra Pop Impressions album from the same year, instead sharing a host of stylistic conceits with fellow library music mover on the French circuit Vincent Gemignani, whose Modern Pop Percussion album that I also shared a while back plies the same nifty hat trick heard here: a meshing of high drama avant garde-ish percussion workouts out of the Lasry/Baschet school with swinging cool cat vibraphone jazz and swank soundtrack-y accoutrements, though the balance here tips more in favor of the latter than the former.

ENEMA OCH GEJONTE-INGEN KISSE, TAPE, 1990, SWEDEN

Wacky pants Ralph Records worship from two Swedish marginals. This was their debut (more will soon follow) and their C. Newman meets Ptose caper and jabber uber-idiocy is already in full flower here, complete with a mile wide streak of pee pee caca juvenilia that's bound to make 'em an acquired taste for some.

BEN REYNOLDS-EARTH & SPACE MAGICS, CDR, 2005, UK

Spot-on sidereal sounds and amniotic bliss from this prolific U.K. freak folk artist whose Third Tongue Meditations EP and work in Helvetica Is The Perfume Of The City I've previously shared. Expect yawning vistas of harmonic waft, ghosted voicings and subtle interventions of scrape and clatter. And your third eye to get droopy and bloodshot in response.

THE COLLECTORS-S/T, LP, 1968, CANADA

Gripping and occasionally wrenching Canuck psych moodiness somewhere between Mandrake Memorial and Second Hand's Reality with a bit of Byrds-ian west coast-isms thrown in for good measure. Simultaneously obsessive and dewy eyed and with a real sense of rib sticking pathos about it.

NULL & VOID-POSSIBILITIES (DISCOVERABLE THOUGHTS), 1983, USA (UNRELEASED)

Like Half Machine Lip Moves On Some Faraway Beach, this final genius stroke from these increasingly warped Californian post punk merchants (following my posts of their Happiness And Contempt and Montage Morte EP's, the latter of which shares a few tracks with this album) ratchets up the stakes significantly; their angle of approach here weaving Chrome-plated and dystopian shaded tangents through a series of emotionally loaded and pop savvy oblique advances that are absolutely breathtaking in their collective impact. This album was shopped around all over back in the day and deemed "too weird" by one and all. Feh! Silly children...they missed the boat on a stone cold classic; one you now have the privilege of discovering thanks to William Shifflette from Null &Void, who has graciusly made this monster available for public consumption.

Note: link removed, as this has now been formally released for the first time via  Bunkerpop's new LP pressing of this gem.

V/A-NOISES, LP, 1977, BELGIUM

A brilliant and long forgotten compendium issued on Kamikaze, the same label that released essential albums by both Aqsak Maboul and Les Tueurs De La Lune De Miel, Noises features a curious cross section of Belgian art rock and experimental music notables. Perhaps most significantly, it also features an otherwise unavailable and hauntingly gorgeous 14 minute cascade of delayed organ/sax/vocal bliss from the Riley-esque French minimalist Ariel Kalma that fills out most of side B.  Future Telex synth pop mover (and ex jazz rock titan in Placebo) Marc Moulin fills out the remainder of said side with another pool of delays, this one applied to his voice. Elsewhere, short tracks rule the day, with his fellow Telex-er Michel Moers contributing a series of them covering everything from flute and jews harp duets to field recordings, some alongside future Cos vocalist Ilona Chale, who offers up some brief but luscious bits as well.

GUYER'S CONNECTION-PORTRAIT, LP, 1983, SWITZERLAND

The debut from these revered Swiss minimal synth mongers and a follow up to my post of their eponymous and archivally issued second LP from '85, Portrait works a notably less wacky synth pop seam than the aforementioned but is no less ingratiating for the restraint. Sharp Kraftwerk-ian fun with a nearly archetypal approach to the form.

*RETRO*SEX*GALAXY*-LE BOOTLEGUE PARISIEN, CDR, 2002, POLAND

A hot spasming plunderphonic digital fuck from the Polish musical hinterlands that sounds like a death match between Dat Politics, John Oswald and Oval and comes to you courtesy of one Wojciech Kucharczyk, proprietor of the esteemed Mik.Musik imprint and the twisted mind behind a host of other left field treasures I've shared over time including Molr Drammaz, Go Outside To See More Animals and Pathman, here operating under his solo alias.

PIERRE LOUVET-KARATE K NO. 1, LP, 1970, FRANCE

Another choice library find from the seemingly infinite annals of French 70's glory, this one issued on the Homere Library imprint. Not 100% solid, this still features a raft of campily groovulating psych-tinged sleazy listening pleasures, becoming more evident the deeper you delve into it, though the opener Kenacontaquine is certainly worth getting hot and bothered about as well; with string synth themes that sound like the blueprin tfor several of Felix Kubin's best bits circa Filmmusik.
