TRIPOD JIMMIE-LONG WALK OFF A SHORT PIER, LP, 1982, USA

Formed by guitarist Tom Herman upon his exit from the early line-up of Pere Ubu and named in honor of a three legged pooch owned by one of the members, the musical propositions proffered here are not attempting to re-make the wheel ala Ubu, but taken on their own terms, Tripod Jimmie were a fierce and compelling proposition nevertheless, with a spare but garrulous garage-y attack offset by Herman's tensile guitar shards and twitchily yammering Girls-like vocalizing.

"Franco America" is one of my all time favorite tracks since i've recorded it from radio in 1984. super intensive rock music. does someone knows what the classical composition is that tripod jimmie are jamming on?

Nice to see this, even though I'm sure it's been blogged before elsewhere. Would be nice to see their second, "A Warning To All Strangers"

Thank you for all the goodness!

In answer to a previous comment:

The music in the Franco American (which was originally called Franco American All Star Jam, but was inadvertantly shortened to Franco American by the creator of the album cover) was a cut-up and mutated recording of Symphonie Fantastique by French composer Hector Berlioz. I ran sound on the live recording and at performances and, on this song, part of my job was running Jimmie, which was a tape recorder on a stand. I would play with the volume sliders. It was fun! I'm the bass player's ex-wife, Diane.
