KAN MIKAMI-BANG!, LP, 1974, JAPAN

A true legend of the Japanese countercultural underground, having over time worked with everyone from Shuji Terayama and his Tenjo Sajiki theatrical troupe to leading lights of the PSF-related Japanese noise psych camp via his work in Vajra and the Haino/Mikami/Yoshizawa trio, though it must be said that the deeper resonances of much of what Mikami has created over the years seems mostly available to Japanese speakers, predicated as his style is on rawboned and direct emotional conveyance and play with the Japanese language, though his ravaged articulation and soul bearing naked angst has it's western admirers even when just operating as just a man a his guitar. This early explosion of inscrutable avant folk rock/studio fucked strangeness will however go some ways toward initiating those not yet ready for the austere blast of otherness that comprises so much of his solo canon; the nerve shattering Friendsound-worthy psychotropic meele of the title track in particular being one of the more confounding/astounding artifacts of the whole Japanese psych/prog era.

ok, english lesson time. "it's" means it is. the possessive form is "its" without an apostrophe.

okay?

anonymous-these last five posts have been riddled with small errors like that (misidentified Jason Willett as Christopher initially, stated Denmark as the country of origin for the Codex comp instead of Sweden etc). This is called cramming like a motherfucker to compress what normally takes 2 days of work into one. That posts went up at all this time is a minor miracle, considering that I'm simultaneously launching a label, getting covers/vinyl pressed, creating websites, procuring distribution and working on two separate musical projects, one on a tight deadline. Alas, I no longer have the editorial staff of Alternative Press at my disposal to catch minor snafus like that (care to proffer your services?), so please to forgive my abuse of the Queen's english.

Nevermind him, Eric. He's just being a smart aleck. Don't think any of these folks are trying to tick you off, it's just their personalities are weird, so it seems that way. Hope you have a nice Fourth of July and that you are able to get some extra time off over the holiday. Sounds like you deserve it based on everything going on. And thanks much for the new posts. Always appreciated to see new stuff to download.

Eric- all work here hugely appreciated!

As for the 'english lesson'- fine, but imagine if the same nit-picking and need for 100% correctness was applied to music. If so would the above anon be a visitor to Mutant Sounds? I don't think so.

Incredible work!!! i've got to be sincere to all of you: i've never liked the 80's, the sound never "reached" to me, it seemed too close to the 90's, and far far away from my really really beloved 60's and first quarter of 70's... however, this particular blog certainly shut my mouth! Brillant works from underground bands with eclectic vocals, basic and both piercing keyboards, punk attitude, free thinking, new ideas, sheer brilliant!. Thank you so much for this work!.

Just asking: I've downloaded V/A-ALPHABETICAL UPLOADS OF WHACKED OUT SINGLES PT. 12, and the band called HIDDEN COMBO, and their 4 songs blew my mind tottally. Googled them in 1000 different ways and nothing... Do you have anything more from them? Or at least do you know if there is anything more to look for? THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

Hugs from Argentina.

floydoverdrive-Wish I could help with the Hidden Combo question, but that's the only thing I've ever seen/heard of by them. Thanks for the kind words though!

Though I have known about your blog for a little while now, I've only recently been downloading stuff from it and look forward to exploring the wacked out sinlges stuff. And don't worry about that punctuation comment. James Joyce was horrible at grammar (not that you are) and look where it got him. Great blog. Keep up the great work.

Can I make a request? I've been looking around for Theatre of Ice's earliest experimental tapes, curious to hear that stuff.. Anyone have that to post or refer me to? Thanks!! Mutant Sounds - One of the best blogs in the world ever, of course.

Ok, I already posted a comment but have to again because since then I have downloaded the first two singles comps and have to say, FUCKING GREAT. Wild and weird stuff but not so wild and weird that the songs not enjoyable as well as strange. They are perfect mixtures of pop and experimental. Great songs, great blog and I can't wait to listen to the whole series.

Downloaded it cos of the cover and the year of make. Not really my cup of tea, but original and cool. The guitar playing and sound is a nostalgic and excellent little trip by itself. They just don't do 'em like that anymore.

Great album from one of my favourite artists of all time. If you'll allow the ad, I'd like to point out that I have posted a 320kbps rip of the fantastic Mikami live album 'Yūyake no Kioku kara' on my own blog: http://schwebeablaut.blogspot.com/. Thanks & enjoy!
