RORY STORM-WE ARE SUPERIOR BEINGS, CDR, 2005, NEW ZEALAND

Wild, sprawling and very damaged sounding software fucked acid rock experimentation from this New Zealand one man band, who's also had his work issued by imprints like Foxglove and Celebrate/Psi/Phenomenon. Ambitious in its scope, this takes in aspects of everything from soupy Sunroof!-like swarming acid mesmerism to blearily cyclical grooves that seem distantly Seefeel related to spare finger-picking post-Fahey/Takoma acoustic meditations, all tempered by radiant veins of gossamer atmospherics rippling, trailing and decaying away.

nice post. "ambitious in its scope" - come on, you're doing this on purpose, aren't you?

ah, the old debut album. This was recorded in my one room flat in Dunedin at the beginning of 2005 in the space of a week. The flat was in an old Victorian office building that had been converted into a boarding house, located directly next door to the famous Dunedin venue Sammies - we popped over to see Straightjacket Fits playtheir reunion gig - and on the corner of one of the busiest intersections in the city. The 'field recording' mentioned in list of instruments is actually the sound of traffic leaking through the window. It took me a week to record - there's actually another album's worth of stuff I did at the same time. Jim Currin, who ran United Fairy Moons, had asked me to make him an album after seeing me play live backing music for a play in the space above Arc Cafe, and I got a bit carried away... he chose the material that made the final cut, and the track order, and the rest is actually total history now.

If you'd like any more of my stuff, feel free to contact me at dr_rory_storm@yahoo.co.nz

If Rory's amenable, you should post his second album "Fuck The Memescape", which got crap distribution (my fault) and is seriously great.
