GHEDALIA TAZARTES-VOYAGE A L'OMBRE, CD, 1997, FRANCE

One of France's most idiosyncratic talents, Tazartes has since the mid-70's mined a sui generis universe of berserk intoning and wailing glossolalia vocalization, rough hewn tape collage and loose ethno-instrumental mulch, all elements frottaging each other against their inherent grains to much screwy amusement. This late 90's work does to a certain extent temper some of the more proactively fucked and densely layered machinations of his 70's era recordings, though however much he might have reigned in his displays, this is still the work of a world class mad hatter. The start of the eponymous title suite begins with Tazartes in maximal looning-in-the-shower mode as he cheerfully bleats along with scratchy old 20's era 78's; a bare-bones first salvo for a suite that's amongst Tazartes sparsest. It's a deeply mental display, yet oddly effecting in some inscrutable fashion and it's precisely this sort of ferreting out of latent emotionally charged content in the middle of dadaland that is a hallmark of this inscrutable character's whacked methodology and self-evident genius.

NOTE: AT THE REQUEST OF DAVID FENECH OF DEMOSAURUS RECORDS, I HAVE PULLED THE LINK FOR THIS UPLOAD AND AM INSTEAD RE-DIRECTING YOU TO THE MP3 PAGE OF THEIR SITE, WHICH HOSTS

What a crock of shit.

The Ghédalia Tazartes "Voyage A L'Ombr" CD is not even available. I checked Metamkine and there is no "add to cart" button and the CD is listed as "indisponible," meaning it's out of print.

I could respect asking for the link to be taken down if this release was currently in print, i.e., it's available for purchase, but it's not.

So how does one get the entire album, then, if not via MP3s? Answer: they can't. Not unless they're lucky enough to find a copy on eBay sometime within the next decade, and I'm sure the price will be astronomical.

Just one detail : I think that this release is available ("indisponible" in the Metamkine catalogue doesn't "out of print" but "out of stock" ... Out of print items are erased from the catalogue.
Signed : The owner of another label distributed by Metamkine.

> What a crock of shit.

thanks "anonymous" for these very nice words.

can't you even imagine that ghedalia tazartes is the owner of his own music ? that he sells a little, and that a label can re-stock or re-print deleted items ?

the problem with everything available all the time for free is that it becomes the rule. and when contested , we get comments such as "What a crock of shit". i'm a little bit shocked by how this world has evolved.

we're not talking about a tape once released in the eighties at 20 copies and long long unavailable. we're talking about a cd release, still available. even if not always in stock.

there are plenty of extracts on demosaurus website. the first 7 tracks make a suite and need to be listened in a row...

ok, i stop there.
bye bye mr anonymous

PS : thanks mutant sounds to have removed the links after my message

You're contradicting yourself. If they "need" to be listened in a row, why is there only one extract of the 7 available at the site?

Eric did a better job at putting the 7 tracks together than your own web site does.

Let's not pick nits here. Anonymous is being rude, for sure, but can David tell us how we can buy this CD or when it might become available?

Jeremy & Demosaurus, I'm sorry for the "crock of shit" comment. But I just think it's an awful and jealous and arrogant personality who requests a link to be taken down when the CD can't even be readily purchased.

It's like you want to deprive people from hearing the genius of this work, just because. It's a control thing, especially when we're talking about not readily available, obscure-as-nuts music.

Just to be clear, the only reason I posted this was that I believed that it was out of print, as the Metamkine link from your site said indisponible, which I took to mean unavailable. As it appeared to also be unavailable elsewhere, I felt I was clear to post it. I had no way of knowing that it was merely out of stock and not deleted...
