DINOSAURS WITH HORNS-S/T, TAPE, 1983, USA

Here's another forgotten freak fringe masterwork from the annals of the L.A. Free Music Society. Dinosaurs With Horns were the duo of Rick Potts and Joseph Hammer (and are currently reformatted as a quartet of Hammer & Potts together with Tom Recchion & Spencer Savage for their recent CD on Melon Expander that can be found Here ), their work on this debut cassette predating both their involvement in the first incarnation of Steaming Coils as well as their longstanding creative partnership together in Solid Eye, whose wonkily lurching cartoonish constructs are a direct outgrowth of the deliciously absurd tactics first unleashed here. Those lending an ear will find disjunctively loping loops of consumer culture detritus wheeling around the blearily surreal tonalities of Hammer's signature Optigan, while pitch perfect deployments of sound byte kitsch often provide the through-line. Beyond essential!

Note: Due to much hue and cry, I've also now re-upped the link to the Steve Thomsen & Joseph Hammer-Swan Trove CDR.

My god, some of those tracks were like being caught in an 8-bit fever dream. I say this, of course, as a compliment. Thanks for sharing, I' ve come to like a lot of the Free Music Society stuff you've posted.
