POISON DWARFS-WECHSELBAD, TAPE, 1983, GERMANY

Magnificent and utterly atypical Neue Deutsche Welle from an outifit whose acidic constructs seem to owe little or nothing to their contemporaries in the German underground of the era but rather, suggest a haunted mid-ground between the phantasmagorial instrumental post punk being practiced half way around the world by Aussies like The Makers Of The Dead Travel Fast and Laughing Hands and the dystopian and subterranean sonic chambers of Dome and Monoton. Synths blear and drear in psychotropic stasis, rhythm boxes knock out hollow cadences in the distance and sublimity is achieved by quixotic and unlikely means.
