CAROLINER RAINBOW HERNIA MILK QUEEN-REAR END HERNIA PUPPET SHOW, LP, 1986, USA

Something about Caroliner's particular strain of musical sickness prompts critics to trot out their most hyperbolic verbiage and the instinct it elicits in me is much the same (but then, when isn't that my instinct?), so allow me to direct my own ejaculations of adjective syrup in their general direction as well. This, the very first missive from the Caroliner mothership is a monster of deliciously diseased technicolor bulldada grotesquerie, this Bay Area mob's fully formed aesthetic universe of heatstroked and ergot poisoned hoot 'n' holler smurf-voiced avant rock cacophany completely in play even at this early stage. Subsequent releases (especially their masterstroke "I'm Armed With Qts. Of Blood", posted a while back by Jim) would refine their psychotic stratagems into something truly penetrating and hallucinatory, but the needle gunked lo-fi gruel of Residents/Beefheart/Butthole Surfers-informed insanity thats oozing out of the grooves here is as awe inspiring as the emptied-garbage-can packaging is disgusting (mine's got used kleenex, school notebook pages, broken LP's and a section of a veterinary journal...what's in yours?).

Thanks to Psy. Guy for the vinyl rip on this one!!

Note: link removed, as this is effectively still in print and can be had via Revolver Distribution here.

The box contents are like an archeological treasuretrove. Well, maybe in a thousand years when mutant society rules and the inhabitants search for answers to their ancestral roots.

Cheers,
Psyence Guy

Thank you so much for this. I really hate to be a douche but please feel free to post as much Caroliner as possible. I had pretty much a complete collection of Caroliner destroyed by a house fire a few years ago.

Thanks again...

This is great stuff! Indeed it does sound a little early 80's Ralph and even Residents (a la 7" "Satisfaction" and also hints of the wilder pieces from the "Fingerprince" album). Hope for more of same. Not sure how much pre-1990 Caroliner stuff there is tho. Anyway; thanks! And thanks again!

My copy came with an empty black plastic jewelry case, giant four of diamonds playing card, a ripped piece of cloth, a pill, an instruction manual for a cube puzzle game called Soma made by Parker Brothers in 1969, a loose jacketless 45 RPM record by a band called Deus Ex Machina & a section of pages ripped from a small kid's grade school assignment book with visible bootprint on the front.

Mine came with a flyer for a show featuring Caroline and Culturcide, a bunch of stationery envelopes all stuck together, a sheaf of pages torn out of a composition notebook, and an empty cassette jewelcase with a tiny piece of ceramic-or-something fastened to it.

My box came with a 1980's Santa xmas card, some torn pages from a medical journal, a squiggley marker drawing with JAY written on it, a two page spread(ripped from trash mag) on flashback fashions and the corner segment of a pastel drawing and a flyer from a Caroliner gig
