ENDINGS AND BEGINNINGS

Due to some very serious personal and family-related issues that I've been confronting, Mutant Sounds will now be placed on hold for the time being. All the older texts and all links attached to the new and authorized files from the last few months' posts will remain, but Mutant in its current incarnation will cease operations. Instead, what will follow at the (to be determined) time when activities re-start will be a revival of Mutant in an entirely new format as an internet radio show.

Until then, thanks to all of you for all the years of support and patronage.

Eric

For so many years I have hit my Mutant Sounds bookmark with a keen sense of anticipation about what I would come across. I would impatiently await the download, check out the sounds in all their mutant glory, and if it sounded like my thing (and it so often did) I would burn it and drop it on the player and turn it up. Such fun! I will miss this ritual, knowing that despite there being other good blogs around, I cannot and never will find quite the same flavour and mix anywhere else. As they say, the end of an era, but it has brought so much fascination, joy and weirdness into my life that rather than lament the passing of MS as I have known it, I can only thank the gods and yourselves that it existed at all and for so long. Good luck to you for the future.

Having bought my first record in the seventies, listened to John Peel from before I was even a teenager and generally kept an eye on what I considered was the most obscure music imaginable, it was somewhat of a shock to discover thanks to blogs like Mutant Sounds that there was a whole universe of music out there that I had no idea existed and I cannot thank you all enough for giving me such joy over the years.

Here is a quite an appropriate Latin phrase from Neil Gaiman's Sandman (though I think he got it from Heraclitus)...

"Omnia Mutantur, Nihil Interit"

or "Everything changes but nothing is truly lost"... You can see from the comments that Mutant Sounds has touched our lives and we will carry it with us for the rest of our lives in one form or another.

I wish Eric and the rest of the team "all the best" in the most profound sense possible.

We now have re-released "Strike Now" on Bandcamp: https://codebmus.bandcamp.com/ with more releases of ald and new tunes to come. Thanks again for your help. Good luck with the new venture. i was a fan of this blog years and years ago when i was young and just starting to become enriched by all kinds of experimental music. in some ways i sort of grew up with this blog. i still check back in on mutant every few months or so...what you guys have done here is really amazing. i hope whatever is going on your life has reached, or is reaching, some sort of positive resolution. we of the online experimental music will not forget this blog! we look forward to your return, whenever that may happen. best wishes to you in the meantime.

Markus said...

I hope things will turn out okay for you, Erik.

I haven't checked into mutant sounds for about 6 months I think. So I was sad to see that it has come to an end. It was brilliant while it lasted.

I discovered so much great music through this blog with my friends. You posts kept me from going insane while I was living in a foreign country with no money left. I want to thank you for all the years of unleashing one musical gene after another. Who knows if those records ever would have seen the light of day if not for this incredible blog. It seems like this blog had been part of my daily routine for years. So I feel some sadness now that it's over.

For me, in my personal opinion, a great deal died with the closure of megaupload. We had a good run.

Thanks for the music!

Viva Mutant-Sounds!
