HIRSCHE NICHT AUFS SOFA (H.N.A.S.), MUSIK FUR SCHUHGESCHAFTE, CD, 1991, GERMANY

I've never quite understood Heemann and Flaam's antipathy to this CD and it's follow-up Willkur Nacht Noten, (coming in my next round of posts), which comprise their two final releases. Presumably, the break-up of the artistic partnership of these two post-industrial pranksters soured 'em on both on these two releases. Me? I think they share the same twisted Nurse With Wound-like strategies that imbue their best work, if anything broadening their palette even further here than on prior releases into a full fledged crazy quilt of disjunctive structural irregularities and audio non-sequiters, albeit one that's remarkably elegant and fine-tuned in it's deployment of the truly fucked.

I think it's one of their best albums, but there's less co-operation between the members, each track feels less like an intentional left-turn and more like they're each just taking turns between ambient atmosphere & straight up weird pop

too bad these albums are so rarely in print
