PHEW-HIMITSU NO KNIFE, CD, 1995, JAPAN

Primarily known for her several albums in collaboration with members of Can, this mid 90's outing by Japanese avant chanteuse Phew (featuring contributions from Otomo Yoshide on about a third of it) wrongheadedly frontloads a few of it's lesser tracks, something that could dissuade the impatient among you from further investigation. This would be unfortunate, as there's much inspired weirdity lurking in the recessed corners of these compositions, something that becomes increasingly apparent the longer you sit with this wily and beguiling album, it's best moments demonstrating a fascinating take on frenzied symphonic art pop by way of a certain Mick Karn-like fouth world-ism and a major lacquering of studio gloss.

Graham and Adgy,

This blog below just posted two full-length Phew CDs.

And Here:

Unfortunately, they're only 128 bit-rate, but us beggars can't be choosers, I suppose!
