Gawky, gnarled, asymmetrical and jousting at odd angles with pie pan percussion, lumbering bass, glockenspiels and typically declamatory NDW spieling, Die Wahre Kunst sounds like nothing so much as the inbred teutonic cousins of Code BMUS (posted my moi some months back).

A superb compilation featuring lengthy works from four notable experimental audio artists/groups. Including contributions from Contact With A Curve and Art Simon, pride of place here goes to Randy Grief's trance inducing 18+ minute No Ordinary Storm, which opens the proceedings in truly lovely fashion, coming as it does from the more liminal, glazed end of his aesthetic, and taking his usual inversions of Jon Hassell's fouth world-isms to more eerily crepuscular ends and Canadian electroacoustic and computer music composer Jocelyn Robert, whose beautifully enveloping 18 minute Hinterland suite closes this album in a lovingly crafted sequence of musical non sequiters. Note: this lengthy CD has been divided into two parts.

Highly cryptic audio art from this enigmatic Germany improvisor integrating location recordings with arcane improv gestures in a very Bernard Vitet-like fashion.

What follows is the third installment in my ongoing series of postings of singles from the vdoandsound archives.
ART ZOYD-SANGRIA/SOMETHING IN LOVE, 1971, FRANCE
None of the members of Art Zoyd who are responsible for this band's legendary string of brilliant, doomy R.I.O. albums were in the band at the time of the recording of this early 70's single. Oddly enough, early model Art Zoyd were in fact purveyors of excellent flaming acid rock with something of an akin to Richard Pinhas' pre-Heldon unit Schizo.
A 3 DANS LES WC-CONTAGION/CHIC-CHOC, 1978, FRANCE
Wonderfully bent French minimal synthy post punk with a sound that finds layers of anxiety and unexpected emotional gravity buried within wheezy little themes and skeletal structures via some exceedingly high strung vocals and outbursts of unexpected emotion that burst out of this cold wave with out-of-left-field poignancy.
AUS LAUTER LIEBE-EIN HERZ UND EINE KRONE/HOT LOVER (MABEL R.), 1980, GERMANY
Two streams of piss landing on rock's decrepit corpse as heard on a transistor radio...sitting in the next room. Ridiculous but strangely gripping work from this anarchic Neue Deutsche Welle group.
AUS LAUTER LIEBE-PINGELIG/DAS TOR ZUR WELT, 1981, GERMANY
By the time of this second single, Aus Lauter Liebe's dysfunctional disjointed clatter had congealed into something resembling rudimentary song form, albeit of an all-knees-and-elbows variety. Highly amusing and bent shit!
LES BANANAS-PAPACHO/LEA-LEO, 1973, FRANCE
Side A of this ultra-obscure French oddity sounds like War composing the theme music for a sequel to Sanford And Son. Weirdly amusing in it's own way, but more a goof than anything. As for the B side, well...thats a different story. Imagine Jean Cohen-Solal and Malon leading a stampede of elephants through Traffic Sound's hallucinogenic Peruvian jungle.
BATTERY FARLEY-S/T, 2x7" EP, 1985, USA
Some very confused boys who don't know whether they want to be a wonderful melancholic-minimal-synth-into-arty-postpunk unit or a cheeseball political hardcore group of the sorriest stripe. Fortunately, the former outweighs the latter and those 5 tracks are lovely things indeed.
THE BEAKERS-RED TOWEL/FOOTBALL SEASON IS IN FULL SWING, 1980, USA
Appealingly brittle Gang Of Four cum Blurt anxiety riddled post punk from an Washington outfit whose principal claim too fame is that this single was produced by a pre-Ministry Bill Rieflin.
PHIL BEDEL-BELLS ON ICE/A BAO A QU, 1980, USA
This is a record of minimal synth sounds, but it's not "minimal synth". Bedel's sequences unfurl in metallically resonant Tietchens-like tendrils in an extremely minimal fashion for the 13 minute duration of this EP length single, making this the perfect lead-out track...

Dark tripped out electronic weirdness that in both tone and conception seems to sit perfectly between two of Tolley and Dara's contemporaries in the late 70's/ early 80's Aussie cosmic music scene (and yes, there was such a thing): Ian Macfarlane and Krozier and The Generator. it shares with the former a charmingly antiquated approach to cosmos trekking; with the latter, a method of approaching the (musical) astral plane from a vantage point thats distinctly occult-ish in tone at times.

2/3 killer minimal synth (bordering on synth punk) craziness with overtones of Industry and Christian Lunch (circa Shark Bait)
contrasted with 1/3 pitiful flaccid cover versions with vacant chick vocals that seem utterly irreconcilable with the brilliance of the the other 4 tracks.

Intriguing, all over the map early 80's Neue Deutsche Welle outfit that exists in some no-mans-land of their own devising between high strung femme vox post punk angularity and deconstructed rock atmospherics.

GO are an insane Japanese synth splat and group chant fronted drum troupe whose appeal is immediate, irresistible and destined to get fans of late model Boredoms singularly hot and bothered.

Despite a number of impressive accomplishments, the Forum Quorum today is largely forgotten. But how many other groups of the era can claim two appearances on the Mike Douglas Show, two motion picture soundtracks, numerous product jingle recordings, a Vox sponsorship, a national magazine cover, and two 45 singles and a full LP release? Indeed, due to their impressive track record, the Forum Quorum had their quest for the big time documented in a book titled “How To Form A Rock Group.” After picking up a copy of the book on eBay, we did a quick Internet search and were fortunate enough to locate drummer Brian Albano, who graciously agreed to provide more information on the group and their various projects.

Impossible to find industrial / experimental music compilation LP on very small swedish Konduktor label from the mid-80's!! This features the 1st vinyl appearence of LILLE ROGER(ex-BRIGHTER DEATH NOW), also NJURMANNEN(DEUTSCH NEPAL connected), EN HALVKOKT 1 FOLIE, VERBOTEN, plus some other less known swedish industrial projects like Control Addicts, Fageldod, Cirkulerar Ovanfor, Mygel, Dagcenter-Pobeln, Datahysterii, Cloister Crime. A true jewel of 80's industrial music, moving along the lines of early 80's classic industrial, like Whitehouse, SPK, Throbbing Gristle, New Blockaders, Zoviet France, Hunting Londge, Merzbow. Contained 14-page booklet with lots of b/w pictures, manifestos and discographies! A real must for fans of experimental, industrial, electronic music, Brighter Death Now, Throbbing Gristle, Monte Cazzaza, Whitehouse, Sutcliffe Jugen, Merzbow, P16.D4, Death in June, Coil, Maurizio Bianchi, Memorandum, Organum, New Blockaders, John Duncan, Hafler Trio, Nurse with wound, Stockhausen, John Cage, Mauricio Kagel, Ligeti!
