The First Set Of Obscure DIY Classic 7"

GAMBIT OF SHAME:NO BOUNDS/18 OUT 0F 20

GAMBIT OF SHAME
Lyndsey Beard - vocals - Paul Mex - bass - Gary Pinker - vocals - Mike Wallis - guitar - Amanda Ashley - cello - Ray from Ritual - drums
It could be argued that the Gambit of Shame were ahead of their time when comparisons are made with today's music scene. Unfortunately they only really existed on the underground & fringe of the mainstream music scene whilst together from 1981 until their demise, in the apt year of 1984. They had Numerous line-ups throughout but possibly the bands pivotal moment was around the release of their single 'No Bounds', which was produced by ex-Soft Machine member, Robert Wyatt.
GARAGE CLASS:ONE HELL OF A KISS/TERMINAL TOKYO

MUGGINS BLIGHT:MR SOMEBODY E.P

NUCLEAR SOCKETTS:HONOUR BEFORE GLORY E.P

RELIGIOUS OVERDOSE:ALIEN TO YOU/I SAID GO

Most people who are aware of the release of Pandoras Box, Venus Fly Traps second album proper, will probably have little, or no idea of the history of the bands mainman, Alex Novak. When his first band, Religious Overdose, hit the national music press circa 1981, he was described as "facially long and angular, topped with a squiff of black hair". The music was minimal guitar experimentation, a step away from the inanity of the wave of post punk, Three singles later and they were dead.
SOHEP:SO MUCH FUN /YOU COULD BE SO NICE DEAR
Absolute masterpiece released in 1981 on the Merciful Relief label(later released the first Sisters of Mercy 7").An excelent sample of real DIY post punk in the Astronauts vein.

SOME OF MY BEST FRIENDS ARE CANADIANS:FEEL SHEEPISH/SAME
Another great 7" released on Bugle label (of Astronauts fame), in 1979.Phil Thorton plays synth.FANTASTIC!

SYSTEMS:SCENERY /PRIVATE LIVES

This is another great 7" from the Liverpool area. The group can be heard on Street to Street vol2 compilation(coming soon),and had released one more 7" on the Open Eye records. This one is from 1979.
THIN YOGHURTS:DRINK PROBLEM/GIRL ON A BUS

JUST A MASTERPIECE!
V/A SWINDON THIS IS SWINDON E.P4 Track EP. Recorded during January 1980 on Redbrick Studio's 4-track TEAC system in the basement of Swindon Town Hall. Produced by Dave Lewis and the bands. Engineered by Bubbles. Motivation by Richard Tomkins. Redbrick Records 1980 RED 0001.

Oh, I can go buy it!? Thanks, oh Great Lord of Record Collecting! Your posts are adequate enough for a peasant like me. Here in the good 'ol U.S. of A. we let the individual decide what is "total crap" or not. The artist wanted the song there, on the 7", why don't you? Great site though! Do you own a copy of all the records you post?

"Swindon This Is Swindon" - the town of my youth!

The drummer in the Early Bathers was Jonny Stephens, (much) later of Meat Beat Manifesto.

I shared a house with one of the guys from Sohep when they recorded "So much Fun" back in 1981. I recently started making music again recently and we've just recorded a cover of So much Fun - the original vocalist Rob may record vocals for us next week sometime.

Check it out at http://www.reflectionsonlogchopping.com/page2.htm

The two "Some of my best friends are Canadians" tracks are divine. Did they ever release an album?
