ARRIGO BARNABE-TUBAROES VOADORES, LP, 1984, + GIGANTE NEGAO, CD, 1998 (RECORDED: 1992), BRAZIL

Barnabe is a Brazilian composer of absolutely barking mad post-Zappa, post-Albert Marcoeur mutant jazz rock full of hysterical ranting and raving and choruses of dementedly shoo-bopping female singers imported from the same Planet-Claire-meets-Planet-Kobaia parallel dimension zany zeuhl-ies Superfreego emerged from, both popping in and out of the unlikely slots Barnabe constructs for them within his ever-shifting Rube Golberg-worthy musical constructs. Gigante Negao, a live recording, is a wee bit less overtly fucked than the studio damaged Tubaroes Voadores, though both are works of sick genius.

if you dont count some cult sucess here in the eighties, arrigo is unknown even in brazil. but his world is those of an artist, and i had the pleasure to see him live on 98, just the man and his sinth, killing on his greatest "hits" with all the authority and style he ever has. so thanks for giving me the chence to hear this stuff. it's off catalog here too...

the best,

julio.
