LEFT HAND RIGHT HAND-HUMDRUM, 12" EP, 1990, UK

This peculiar rhythm-centric British outfit was focused around the trio of sibling percussionists Andrew and Tim Brown and experimental electronic musician Paul Ackerley, and featured prominent contributions here (as well as on their three other releases) by ex-Lemon Kittens/Shockheaded Peters mastermind Karl Blake and brilliant soprano sax master Lol Coxhill. An good point of reference here might be the post-no-wave drum fiesta of Mark Cunningham and Arto Lindsay's mid 80's project Don King, but supplanting their martial trumpeting for thick and soupy third/fourth world atmospherics, snake charmer horns and vaguely soundtrack-y arrangements. Some of this works amazingly well, some of it less so, but it's all pretty singular stuff.

A long time ago, I read a fantastic article on this group, and I've wanted to hear them ever since. Thank you.

Hey, I remember this band ! They came to play at my exhibition finissage, somewhere in Germany, in 1990 or 1991. While they were playing, I was painting live. Thanx for this nice souvenir.
