BRING PHILIP-ENDOSCOPY 12" EP, 1983, AUSTRALIA

This early 80's Aussie outfit specialized in colorful, high strung and art damaged new wave of an immediately gripping sort, with a highly studio crafted sound featuring lots of startling stereo imaging (the sort of thing that a certain crowd likes to refer to as "zolo"), but also featuring, it must be said, a strong akin to Nothing To Fear-era Oingo Boingo, right down to the highly Elfman-esque vocalese. If thats a sphincter clenching prospect for you, avert your ears, though it's a fully happy proposition in these quarters...

Doesn't want to play. Says that the file extension doesn't match. Anyone else have this problem?

Nope, all 4 tracks play for me.

Have you tried unzipping with 7-zip, as recommended on many other comments on MS postings?

My dumbass was trying to unzip the Macosx file...got it now. Thanks for the help.

This is a cross between Danny Elfman and Stump. Try listening to "A Fierce Pancake" and you'll see what I mean.

Hi, thanks for posting this ... I haven't got a record player anymore and wanted to hear it again ...

... doesn't sound as bad as i remembered it! I still remember hand silk-screen printing all 500 covers ...
Anyway thanks again for posting this

Absolutely magic! Hearing this again repairs my memory over a long lamented loss of this EP a long time ago in Sydney. I had always hoped (though never expected) to find a digitization of this vinyl - to whom-so-ever posted this material, thank you ever so much.

Hi there,
Would you like an upload of Bring Philip's other vinyl release, a 7" single called "Comforts"?

Simon-Oh, hell yeah! Anything more by your splendid former band would be MUCH appreciated. You guys were one of Australia's great unsung masters of the era...

Apart from the “ENDOSCOPY” EP and our contribution to the “Live at the Wireless” comp that you’ve got here at Mutant Sounds, this 1984 single was the only other ‘actual release’ by Bring Philip.

It was recorded soon after we cut down to a three piece plus drum machine. The A-side ‘Comforts’ (written by Ilmar Karuso) was our idea of a “single” - probably quite ‘pop’ for us but not enough for everyone else ☺

24 years later, I prefer the B-side “3:27”, written by the group in a day and recorded the next, from memory ? It was an attempt to just use acoustic instruments. Ilmar Karuso is on guitar, Dean Alderson on piano, myself (Simon Hunt) on glockenspiel and ‘pianoframe’ (upright piano strings played with fingers, hammer and paint scraper)

We moved to Berlin in 1986 and had two attempts at recording an album – I left the band in late ’87 after the first attempt (big fight with dodgy record company) and formed a duo called “Frame Cut Frame” with Brett Dean of the Berlin Philharmonic – we released two CDs on the Sub Rosa label.

Bring Philip continued on until ’89. Someone from the band (Ilmar?) has recently made a Myspace page here which contains tracks from a cassette of the 2nd unreleased album, there’s also a history there.

Thanks for your interest, feel free to post this up or just leave it in the comments if you wish.

All the best,
Simon Hunt

Hi! It's so nice that you've started this process.
Seems like Ilmar have lost most of the materials.

Hope to see you soon.

I'm enjoying those unreleased tracks on the bring philip myspace, can you bring philip guys make them available for download?

Hi Richard,
Probably best to ask at the Myspace site - I think Ilmar made that page, and so should have the tracks ...

Your biggest fans were in Darwin would you believe. All 4 tracks would fill the dance floor at our club Vinyl that ran for two years
84-86. Great memories and glad to find a digitized copy, mine is worn.
