HIDEKI MATSUTAKE/CHOJURO KONDOJ/MASASHI KOMATSUBARA-EDO, LP/CD, 1978, JAPAN

Obscure reissue from 2000 of an equally obscure late 70's "old-meets-new" electronic concept album, Matsutake, Kondoj and Komatsubara herein concoct a fairly enticing fusion of 70's Tangerine Dream-style cosmic electronics and Japanese traditional instrumentation, hence the title "Edo". The legitimately tripped and the patently cheesy are pretty much kissing cousins here, but if you're susceptible to such miscegenation, you could do far worse than cocking your ear this way.

I was actually searching for 'Hideki Matsutake and K.I. Capsule's "007 Digital Moon"(CBS/Sony) 1979' which rumour has it features weirdo-discofunk/vocoder versions of various James Bond film tracks when I came across the album you posted and I am so happy I did...nearly 4 years later and the RS link is still alive! That service for you! (though I will never forgive them for their culling of thousands of links the other year!)

Japanese synth records of the mid late 70s remind me a lot of European library records of the same period with the profanity of the banal and cheesy rubbing shoulders with some of the most sacred, strangest and original electronica imaginable....this album certainly has it all!

I am embarrassed to admit that despite been into Logic System for years I have only just got around to checking out Hideki Matsutake's other work!

The original 1979 "007 Digital Moon" seems impossible to find, there was a 2003 CD reissue of the album (the 007 part dropped for fear of corporate claims one imagines as its an "unofficial" James Bond covers album) along with another album called "Nazo No Mugenokai" (at least I think its another album) but the cheapest copy on Amazon is nearly $140!

You know whats coming next...any of you Mutoids have it or ever come across "007 Digital Moon"? because if you have......

@ The Saucer People

I'm feeling you. I never ever heard a single snippet of those songs. But as a James Bond fan i'm so curious.
