UNITA MINIMA-THE EDGE OF THE WORLD, LP, 1989, JAPAN

Crafty, suave and understated Japanese avant rock poised somewhere between the delicate but fucked post-R.I.O. exploits of Luna Park Ensemble and After Dinner on one hand and Can collaborator and avant chanteuse Phew's later and more studio slicked art pop outings on the other. Unita Minima can get a wee bit too demurely precious in parts (a pitfall the aforesaid bands/artists generally avoid), but this is still an entirely compelling chapter of the overlooked 80's Japanese avant rock continuum.
