SPIONS, INC.-THE PARTY 12" EP, 1979, FRANCE

Wonderful, jittery and frequently gripping French synth pop with boucoup zipping and zapping synthification, occasional forays into mutant funk and, on the best cut here (the unexpectedly poignant "Marlene-Just A Machine"), a decided akin to Tuxedomoon.

SPIONS Inc. is an overnational entity, which collaborated on this record with members of the French group Artefact. The lead singer - The Party - on The Party EP is Gregor Davidow (formerly known as Sergei Pravda), a Russian spy, who has betrayed his origins. He has changed his identity a number of times since the release of The Party EP. Presently he is residing in Montreal, Canada, where he is operating under the codename DJ Helmut Spiel!

Sorry, but i think, Spions was a first Hungarian punkband, but the bandmembers deserted to France in 1978...It's a true story and they weren't a French band.

Cheers!

Spions was definitely the first Hungarian punk band of Gergely Molnár (who named himself later Gregor Dawidow, Sergei Pravda and DJ Helmut Spiel!), and Péter Hegedűs (he named himself later Peter Ogi), and they emigrated to France in 1978, later to Canada and the UK and US. Péter Hegedűs publishes a CD with all available Spions-songs on November 30, 2009, and he organises a concert in Budapest on November 18, 2009.
