V/A-THE AMERICAN MUSIC COMPILATION, LP, 1982, USA

This compilation was the first and last vinyl release on the exceptional Eurock label (the musical wing of the definitive prog and experimental music magazine of it's era, which would issue a flood of astounding cassettes in it's lifetime), but the most immediately notable thing about this inauspiciously titled release is Richard Bone's sharp as a tack 12+ minute B.E.F.-like instrumental electro-pop suite, "Alternative Music For The Hindenburg Lounge", perhaps my favorite work ever from this noted minimal synth guru. Elsewhere, Anode (not to be confused with Japan's Anode/Cathode, who I've also posted in the past) traverse ruminative Robert Haigh-like terrain to arrive at some 80's-era King Crimson progification, Jason Martz, John Lutrelle and Eddie Jobson (yes, that Eddie Jobson) whittle away at some minor bit of modern classical chamber music to little effect and the frankly astonishing Doctor Wize (aka Dennis Wize aka Dennis Weise, whose two masterpieces I'll be posting shortly) contributes two cuts, the delicate Woo-like "Jah's Garden Of Delite" and the achingly beautiful Harmonia style cascades of "Tell A Vision".

NOTE: I'VE JUST RECEIVED WORD FROM ARCHIE PATTERSON AT EUROCK THAT HE PLANS TO REISSUE THIS ALBUM SHORTLY, SO THE ALBUM LINK HAS BEEN REMOVED AND REPLACED WITH A LINK TO EUROCK'S HOMEPAGE. PLEASE CONSIDER PURCHASING THIS ALBUM FROM THEM WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE...IT'S A MONSTER!

The Jasun Martz track is a section of what would become "The Pillory", IIRC. What a wonderful comp! Whatever happened to Anode? Are there other releases?

Do y'all at Mutant Sounds have any releases by K. Leimer or Weingarten/Ormiston ("Windfalls")? Anything by Carl Weingarten would be VERY appreciated.

GREAT BLOG!
