V/A-A CLASSIC GUIDE TO NO MAN'S LAND, CD, 1988, VARIOUS COUNTRIES
There are some true blue stunners tucked away within this R.I.O. compendium, something of a 1988 state of the union for
Recommended Records' German outpost Recommended/No Man's Land, though you might be deceived at first, as they've mysteriously frontloaded some of the lesser work here. For me, the astonishing German unit Uludag (once very accurately described as sounding like "the world's first Chinese R.I.O. band") turn in this compilation's capper, though Biota, Zoviet France (not R.I.O., but somehow they got sucked into Recommended's orbit 'round about this time), Skeleton Crew, Proof Of Utah, Bittova/Fajt and Half Japanese turn in contributions that are not to be sneezed at. This lengthy CD has been divided into two parts.

Hi! Thanks for pointing out Uludag. It's good to know there are still people out there appreciating that stuff. I'm one of Uludag's founders, in fact the guy scraping away at the violin in 7 FUER NICHTS. Chinese, yeah. Very cool. Pity you never heard our electric Balinese piece...
Cheers
Lothar
Lothar...Wow...how about that :-) It's wonderful to hear your comments! Sheesh...your playing is so damn intense on that track...just mindblowing! I completely love your album too. I'd have posted it here long ago, but mysteryposter beat me to it :-) Was the electric Balinese track you refer to on it?
Eric
Eric! GENGGONG (that's the piece I was referring to - I was playing electric beerbarrels on it...) was not on the album, AFAIK. By that time I had already quit the band. If I ever get to transfer some of our old rehearsal/session tapes from the early 80s (there are dozens...) I could send you some of it, if you like.
Lothar
Lothar-Thanks for the further info. Obviously, I'd be thrilled to receive rehersal/session tapes if and when you transfer those old tapes, especially since 7 Fuer Nichts is probably my favorite Uludag track and I'd love to hear more of your contributions. If you were interested in it, I'd also be happy to post that material here.
Eric
