hi,
somebody from Poland here. i've been frequenting your brilliant blog for a month now & i got gobstruck seeing the Klaus Mitffoch LP. i'm not gonna download this one as since 1985, when it came out, i've known its every note by heart, & of course i own it on vinyl & cd (autographed by Mr. & Mrs. Janerka themselves!)
funny that you compare them to bands like New Model Army - i guess they didn't know them at the time. they liked the Stranglers, Gang Of Four, but their primary inspiration was - yep - the Beatles.
i just want to urge everyone to listen to this - and to buy it by some chance, because you can get it in Poland for really cheap, like, in supermarkets. A copy of this should be in every home.
if case anyone needed info on the group: they disbanded shortly thereafter; Lech Janerka, the leader, started a solo career (7 lp's by now, ranging from very good to absolutely f***ing brilliant), and is considered Polish rock's greatest artist. He is like Mark E. Smith minus drinking, really wonderful.
The rest of the group carried on for some time, changed their name to Klaus Mit Foch and released one lp "Mordoplan" in 1988 - a very good record too, but quite forgotten (never re-released on cd). And the guys quit playing music.
and btw, this lp was RECORDED in 1984 and RELEASED in 1985. in June, if memory serves.
cheers to you all - Darek.

Hi Poland

Do you remember an album from the early eighties with the Polish symbol for Solidarity (Solidarność)?

Been trying hard to remember who it was.

Thanks
Bob

It was was by Pressure Company(aka Cabaret Voltaire)

CV yes I recall that.
I was thinking of a Polish band.
Maybe I am nuts.

Yeah, it was impossible throughout the 80s to have the Solidarity logo on a Polish record - actually anywhere, officially...

if i had to choose 3 unique rock artists from Poland, I would go (not very original choice though) with Czeslaw Niemen (3 or 4 album really), Republika (check their "Nowe sytuacje" LP) and Klaus Mitffoch s/t - incredible songs on this one

A good list, but I would add a few more. First of all, probably the greatest album recorded by a Polish band ever, I mean, Za Siodma Gora (Over the Seventh Mountain) and their 'Music the World Does Not See' which is presented somewhere here.
I would also add
'Nowa Aleksandria' by Siekiera
both albums by the first incarnation of AYA RL
'Specjalny Rodzaj Kontrastu' by 1984
'Sola Fide' & 'Tonacy Brzytwy sie Chwyta' by much-underrated Exit...

Probably there are some more...
