SPACEHEADS-S/T, 12" EP, 1990, UK

Every so often you'll toss on something on a whim that has been laying dormant in your collection for ages which winds up taking your fucking head off and makes you question your sanity for somehow overlooking it in the first place. This was just such a record. Spaceheads were a unit fronted by trumpeter and vocalist Andy Diagram some nine years on from his stunning work on The Diagram Brothers' album (posted here by Jim some months back). Amongst the miraculous things about this debut EP of theirs is the way that a mere duo of fuzz trumpet, drums and vocals could achieve such a titanic, immersive and densely rich sonic universe. Diagram processes his horn here through an insanely ripping fuzz setting and with it, composes lines of sickly beautiful wonderment inside of a soundworld comprised of even parts Remain In Light-era Talking Heads and Czukay/Wobble/Leibzeit's Full Circle. You could have knocked me over with a feather by the time this EP came to an end. So so so damn good...
