FRESHLY WRAPPED CANDIES-DARK SIDE OF THE WHITE CHRISTMAS THRILLER, LP, 1987, USA

This criminally unacknowledged L.A. unit occupy a very special place for me in the pantheon of all time greats. One of the first truly warped sounding bands I was to discover as a precocious teen listener of Brent Wilcox's seminal FRGK radio show out of L.A., I've had a life-long obsession with The Freshly Wrapped Candies' supremely disorienting and anomalous mutation of fractured art pop and all things cyclical, loping, woozing, flopping and devolving ever since. Usually name-checked (if at all) as being related (at least sonically) to the various doings of LAFMS and artists on their periphery like The Decayes, in reality they were pretty much the sole residents on a planet of their own devising. Nothing has sounded like this before or since. One for the ages, especially once the equilibrium fucking second side rolls around (and around...and around...). Their debut LP will follow tomorrow...

Awesome posts (as of late, especially). I had no idea Brent Wilcox had a radio show. I was only familiar with his work from his 7" on Happy Squid. Keep all the amazing OOP oddities coming. Thank you.

They released a CD on Ralph Records around 1990, I remember. At the same time, they issued a split album between To Knije Sala and What Makes Donna Twirl?

This is the first time I hear of any of these groups outside of Ralph's mail order catalogue, how's that for obscure?

I vaguely remember their live shows being these amazing plastic drone theater kind of things, sadly not on youtube!

20 years later (holyF, 1991 was 20 years ago!) they are still making music and finally starting to post some old&new stuff. Yes, their live shows were F-ing awesome.

"New" (that is, old) FWC album of unreleased material just appeared on bandcamp, served up by Chris Haaga himself. Dream come true for this rabid fan. I think I just sheeped myself!
