FLOH DE COLOGNE-FLEISSBANDBABY'S BEAT SHOW, LP, 1970, GERMANY, NWW LIST

Both the strongest and strangest release by this peculiar German anarcho-politico crew (oft mentioned in the same breath as as like-minded contemporaries Checkpoint Charlie, Ton Steiene Scherben and Kollektiv Rote Rube), Fliessbandbaby's Beat Show is a somewhat tricky album to try and explain the appeal of, with garage psych/beat rock ramalamma colliding with tongue in cheek schlager, but all arranged in an explicitly dadaist and piss-takey manner (probably improved further if, unlike me, you understand the German language). There's no good reason why this should necessarily be a compelling mix, but there's a decided x-factor at play that manages to transmogrify the intentionally schlocky and slight into something entirely winning.

Brilliant! I love these guys. And you're right, it's hard to explain their appeal. It's like strange hippie political vaudeville.

Hi

Loved the Floh de Cologne album!

This is of those Ohr LPs I never seemed to get the chance to listen to, so it was wonderful to get it from your blog.

Many thanks, as always.
