BRIAN SANDS-FIXATION, LP, 1980, USA
housed in one of the most singularly twisted album covers in my possession (the Egyptian Ruins as re-imagined by NAMBLA? I dunno...), this is a cornerstone monster of private press "real people" psych poppy art rock weirdity. Fey Bowie-isms, R. Stevie Moore and Tyrannosaurus Rex all factor in Sands' wide-ranging pop remit but so too do sick little interventions of Residential fuckery, suave passages of Carribean cool that sound lifted from Kevin Ayers' "Yes We Have No Mananas", woozily haunting acid folk drifts and musique concret inspired tape mangling. A lost masterpiece! His "Reheated Chocolate Tangos" LP will follow shortly...

Are all the tracks there? Looks like 9 and 10 are missing.
For your information - This download contains duplicate MP3 of the first 8 tracks, no tracks 9 & 10, and a single MP3 for the final track (11).

As far as I can tell guys, the download is fine - the tracks are exactly the same as the ones listed on the back cover. Nice LP as well, albeit a bit on the short side.
Anonymous 1 & 2-Actually, all the tracks are there. This, along with several other LP's I've posted recently have all been transferred on my friend's stand-alone burner rather than my USB turntable, which died a short while back, and as was the case with several of those posts, I failed to change the track numbers when removing botched tracks that had to be re-recorded, i.e. tracks 9 & 10 here. Maybe I'll finally take a hint and remember to get tracks properly numbered next time. Hope springs eternal. Sorry for this screw up in any event...
Boy this one wears its influences on its sleeve. It starts off with that flangey guitar that everyone was using back in 1980/81 before going into something so Bowie it would make Bauhaus or Sylvian blush. The next track (Slippery Stones) is in danger of slipping not so much on the stones as into becoming the Horse With No Name and so on. You can see why it would have been dismissed back in its day - now it does have a charm rather like some of those early Momus LP'.
I recognize that photo on the front cover as being of one of the many unusual sculptures at the Vigeland Park in Oslo!

dz-if you go to the link on the comment board posted just above yours, you'll find that at the bottom of the article on Sands, that you can still buy original copies of Fixation from him.
A friend actually thought one of these songs was some David Bowie unreleased rarity..this is some reat stuff, and "Hawaiian Spongecake Holiday" should be the name of a band, if it isn't already.
